I'm looking for a new laptop with 3G capabilities and eventually decided on the HP Compaq 6910p since it seems to be the best trade-off between mobility and performance. (Link) (PDF Spesifications):p
I just have to add a 7200rpm drive, some Ram, take the ATI display as an option and the HP 3G Broadband Wireless. :D

Maybe even a docking station for the office.

Can I? NO!

4 Quotes later and everyone wants to sell me the standard config.

So what laptops are out there that has 3G as standard with enough performance to plan a mission to Mars and not break my back carrying it around?

Dell...

HI

Dell D620 or the new D630 which has just come out in the last few weeks has a built in 3g option. ALso the Dell small lightweight D430 also has the option. I have used there 3g modules and they work great.

www.dell.co.za

u can see pricing online. also you cant beat there next day repair. Plus look at the complete care option which means if you drop it or drive over it they will fix it up to 3 times in the 3 year period. Also got an added option on this complete care for replacement if its stolen.

Cheers
BRuce.

Dell gets my vote too, but the D620 is old news (this from the mouth of a Dell salesman ;)). I have a D820 that I am very happy with. Most of my issues were with Vista (Crappy WiFi drivers from Intel, Aero's new dual display manager - what a pain).

There is a EC slot next to the PCMCIA slot where the data card goes in. The SIM card goes in under the battery. Some people at Vodacom are under the misguided impression that all the new Dells have already shipped with internal cards and that they have simply been disabled in the BIOS because it has not been approved by ICASA. This is rubbish. If you check the dell.co.uk site the 3G cards are an optional extra, there is no way Dell is going to throw it in for free. You can see what they look like here

I called Dell about getting the internal 3G cards for the other models and they told me they would be available soon, so you won't have to be forced to buy a D620 if you want a more powerfull machine.

The mutlicover is so cool. There was no way my standard insurance would ever have worked out cheaper and you can't beat the next business day on site warranty.
