3G Launch date

Mtn BB.....any chance of a early provisioning of my sim :-)

I would like to but I am afraid we cannot offer this at this stage in our launch process. Please hang in.

Caspa, just turn off the 3g antennae on your phone and the problem will go away...
I have now done that because I was getting frustrated with the dispruption to my normal GSM service. Wait until 3G is launched then turn it back on...
Cheers -

Hi.

Please private-mail me and include your cellphone number so I can follow up. Please also let me know where you are (suburb).

Thanks

Thanks. I've emailed you with my details. I look forward to seeing what can be done, since I'm still struggling to make/receive calls properly.

Edge.

MtnBB.....got to work today pulled out my cell phone, 3G signal showing 5 bars, and ......wham checked my mail using MTN 3G....awsome.

No such joy on my side, yet. Woke up to a single bar of 3G connectivity. Received two calls, both of which got cut off in mid-conversation. Hoping MtnBB can sort sommething out for me before I lose my marbles (or my business!)

Premature

I agree with ScrnScrm. It's no use complaining about a service that's not even on the market or advertised for your area.

Switch your phone to 2G.

Unfortunately my firmware is one of the original versions which doesn't let me control whether or not it uses 3G - it seems to choose a 3G network by default if there is one available. It's going in for an upgrade next week but that's still a long way off.

I have tried using FTD to specify gsm only but FTD caused more problems than it fixed so I had to remove it.

OK, that's a bummer. Maybe use an old phone in the meanwhile - at the loss of the "coolness" factor.

Yeah, I'll have to do that for the next few days. Pity though... this phone really is awesome. I can't wait to have the new firmware installed.

Hi all,

My nokia 6630 is permanently displays the 3G icon for my connection to MTN. But since then, whenever I try connect to the internet from my pc via my phone using GPRS/Edge, I get Error 734: The PPP link control protocol was terminated. Any suggestions?

Sorry you are having problems. You can private mail me with your phone number and where are you calling from and I'll get someone to phone you and try to resolve tomorrow.

Hi Edge, please PM me your Firmware version and I will try help you to get Netmon (FTD) working correctly. You shouldnt be experiencing any problems with the software - in my experience it is pretty reliable.
One good thing with the firmware upgrade - it allows you to select GSM or WCDMA, so if you dont like Netmon, you dont have to use it.

We have a 3G SWAT team on standbye so my main suggestion is if you please private mail me your details (phone number, area you are in and phone type - in this case 6630) I'll get support to phone you and resolve.

Hi ScrnScrm. I just got back from the Nokia shop now, I've upgraded the firmware and everything is sorted out, no more worries. Thanks for the offer of help, though, I only saw that now.

Nokia firmware upgrade in CT

HI

Does anyone know if it is possible to get 6630 firmware upgraded in cape town while you wait - the nokia shop wants to send my phone away for a few days and I cannot afford to be without it.

Thanks

Nokia firmware upgrade in CT

Thanks, but that is the very shop that want to send it away to Paarden Eiland. When I enquired if I could take it there myself, they said no. Any other ideas?

3G Launch date, Coverage Map and 6680

It's now June and I have not heard what date MTN plans to have the official 3G launch. Also the MTN site has not been updated with the Coverage map. MTNBB, any ideas as to when this will happen?

I also see that Nokia is advertising the 6680 on tv. Any ideas when MTN will be promoting the handset, MTNH?

hotdog - the 3g towers are active already. you will be able to attach no problem. the official launch is set for later this month.
if you pm me the details of where you live, i will try find out what sort of coverage you can expect for your area...
cheers

6630 Software version?

Which firmware version of the 6630 supports the selection of 3G/2.5G networks?

Anyone know what the 3G coverage will be in the Hatfield area (around University of Pretoria)? There's def. some activity - my niece uses a 6630 for internet access in the dorms and she has been jumping over to 3G the last few days, unfortunately with mixed results (can't do any voice calls on 3G).
