So my adsl line died last night for some reason, so im connected using my phone. The thing im wondering is how come it connects at 460kbps, even though the phone is 3G capable and the 3G symbol is on the phone. Is there some kind of setting i need to find? Cheers guys.

If its 460 kiloBits its probably about right. The max speed of a 3G connection is 1.8Mbps and if you reasonably far from the tower that speed decreases. If its 460 kiloBytes you might be connected on a HSDPA+ which can get 7.2Mbps but you again quite some distance from the tower so you not getting full speed.

The 460kbps speed you are seeing is the link speed Windows is reporting between the phone and the PC, this has nothing at all to do with the speed your phone is getting over the network.

In the days of RS-232 serial ports this link speed would be the maximum speed you could get (data could possibly arrive at your phone/modem faster, but it wouldn't get to the any PC faster).
With USB this no longer seems to be the case, I've achieved 1Mbps speeds through my Nokia N95, even though Windows reports the link as being 460kbps.
