So over these past few weeks I've been having a **** time with my 3G connection, during the day its ok but barely, there's lag spikes all over the place, in the evening from about 6 - 10 PM its unusable!

Has anybody else been getting problems with 3G? I am tired of always contacting Vodacom for these problems, but unfortunately its the only way i can have broadband internet.

Sounds like congestion on the tower when people come home from work. This is very common. One tower serving hundreds of people. During the day there is most likely like 30 to 40 people connecting to one tower. Then at night the number increases to 100 to 150. You can imagine slow throughput, disconnects, etc. Only way to de-congest the tower is to build more towers to ease the load.

Have you checked if you have got LTE in your area? Would be a better option than 3G at the moment. Not too many people using LTE now, so the connection is fast and stable.

Having the same problem, only difference is I live in small town called Steynsrus, there really should not be congestion...
Another thing I noticed is my Vodacom connection connects at 25kbps...

3G is completely messed up atm, had to go on edge to post this. It's just unreliable atm.

People here have been complaining for months already about it. My CellC on the other hand works near perfectly.

How far can lte go [cellphone to tower].

I think it depends on what is between you and the tower. If there are houses, trees and buildings in the way, it will definitely degrade the signal.

I live in Dainfern area and I logged a call for Vodacom to send a technician to come test the LTE signal before I purchase an LTE modem and upgrade my data contract again - as it clearly shows on the Vodacom coverage map that LTE is very patchy in Fourways. The technician that came to visit me told me that I have good LTE coverage and that I'm connecting to the Fourways tower, which is just over 3km away from me. But lucky for me the tower is very high and there is not much clutter between myself and the tower.

I get around 3 bars of LTE signal, sometimes 2 bars. And I get around 10mbps download speeds and 3mbps upload speeds.

Will have to wait for them to upgrade the Dainfern tower to get faster speeds.

A friend in Pretoria only gets one bar of LTE signal on his LTE router and he still manages to get 9mbps download speeds. So it seems that you don't need much coverage to connect onto LTE to get good speeds.

I suppose as more people utilise LTE, so too will it start to congest. Luckily early days for now.

How many people live in your small town?

Checked on Google Maps and you have a small township right next to you as well.

So take into account, how many people from the your town and the township who use Vodacom and then also there might only be 1 tower serving all of you. It could definitely be related to a congested tower.

Is there 3G there.

How about telkom adsl?

This woman from Voda phones me and says everything is working fine on their side, and then tells me that its a problem on my side, after I tell her that i have full 3G signal so signal is not the problem. She then goes on to say that its the servers i am connecting too that have the problem, etc all the you tube channels, all the online game servers, the webpages and everything on the net. Do these people even have a clue what they're saying or do they just hire people off the street to talk **** on the phones?
