Hey guys

I seriously need urgent help here as my moms business is suffering because technology is no cooperating!!!

I have two Asus WL-330N3G Mobile Wireless Routers and they do not want to connect...

I used the one Router for my 8ta (Model Huawei E367) stick and it worked like a charm, setting it up wasa piece of cake. This was just for a test basis because I wanted her Conference and B&B guest rooms to be connect via these routers. We bought another two 8ta sticks (Models Huawei 3131) both of which are activated and working 100%. I plugged the one in did the same steps as my E367, but the internet did not work. The actual modem states that it is connect but the Asus routers 3G light flashes. The Asus's firmware tells me that it is disconnected. I plug in my original 8ta stick and same story.

APN is Internet and the dialling code is *99#...

Please help guys :(

Damn this is confusing! Try and be more clear as to what you're trying to do (use names like modem A, B and router C, etc).

As above, please try be clearer.

Are you trying to connect two different routers to the 8ta network and they work independent of each other or are you trying to link them?

Have you tested the 8ta sticks on a laptop / desktop to confirm they work?

I think APN should be internet, not Internet - not sure if it is case sensitive, but the peeps at VDC told me years ago "no caps"

Models Huawei 3131?

Are they compatible with that router? I don't think so. Try searching within this section for notes about this modem. Sorry - I can't remember where I saw it - but you will have to switch their operating mode, IIRC. Lemme investigate...

Compatibility list - got it this morning from Asus

OK, so not listed. Then definitely OP must try instructions in my link. I think MDMA does the switch natively and I know mAcme will be doing it when I release next week.

Yes he must try that. Also phone his service provider for APN settings. I did find that even though a modem is not listed specifically, that it might work on said router. I had this with my Asus, Intellinet and TP-Link.

Hey Guys, thanks so much for all the replies and I am sorry I was not clear in my explanation.

I need both of these Asus Routers to each be connected by an 8ta dongle. They will work independently from each other and I have said before, they are working and active. The only issue is when I connect the 8ta dongle into one of my Asus routers. The Asus picks up the dongle and the dongle's light states that it is connected to a 3G connection but the Asus's 3G light flashes. The firmware also displays 'disconnected' message.

I have tried resetting the device and starting from scratch but that is no use.

Remove modem
Switch on router
Wait a minute
Plug in modem
Wait a minute.

If this doesn't work, then try another modem.

Other than that, I don't know how to help other than what was already said

Think of it like this:
HiLink modems use the usb power to connect and then establish themselves as alternate ethernet ports. Other modems establish themselves as serial ports and then need to be dialed in the traditional way. The different is we "dial" *99# instead of a number for a RADIUS.

The Asus is expecting to dial *99# on the 3131. The 3131, happy that it has received power, connects. It is expecting to add an ethernet port to the Asus. Do you see the problem? Asus wants a serial modem to dial while 3131 is giving a network port.

So...

(1) Plug the USB into a computer and get it to connect.
(2) Once connected, go to http://192.168.1.1/
(3) Click the Settings gear thingy
(4) Disable Auto Connect
(5) Disable Auto reconnect
(6) Click Apply
(7) Click HOME link and if it is connected, click DISCONNECT
(8) Now visit http://192.168.1.1/html/switchProjectMode.html
(9) You need to connect to it with HyperTerminal or whatever your serial commander is.
(10) Once it is connected to the serial port, issue AT^U2DIAG=0
(11) Unplug and pop it into the asus

I have an issue myself from point 9 as it does not appear as a serial port on the mac even after I try this. I am still searching for that solution.

Long shot - can you connect it to wan side with an adapter for usb? Use a cable with 2 male usb connections where one will supply power and the other connect to the wan port?

Have you tried putting a prepaid Vodacom sim with a cheap data bundle loaded on it in the router?

8ta and Vodacom uses exactly the same APN details.

Maybe the 8ta tower is off or backhaul problem.

There are so many modems and routers it is unlikely all the modems will work with all the routers.
Unless you have the time, get a router with built-in 3G or buy the router and a compatible modem from the same supplier. If it does not work return it on the same day and say it does not work - then find another supplier. To save time take the SIM card with you. Test the router (before or immediately after you purchase it) and return it while you are there if it does not work.
