Hi there

Does anyone know if it is possible to get a 3G router with a static IP address assigned? I need a temporary connection to replace an ADSL connection whilst we are moving premises.

If so which service providers and a contact number please.

You need to contact your 3G service provider & ask them about unrestricted APN

Edit:
NOte - the last time I looked into this it was only possible on contract SIMs so I do not know if it will be possible on pre-paid. Maybe this has changed - you would have to ask them.

Your (internet) IP address is determined by your ISP, not your own router. I don't know if a static one is available on 3G though.... If you just mean the IP address you use to access it from the network, they are all manually configurable.

that is what unrestricted APN is for. It even allows peer-to-peer, for instance if you wish to run a gaming server from home you would need that.

Cool thanks, will look into that, we will take out a contract if we have to.

Maybe take out a 2GB contract & add additional GBs if needed, else if you take a large contract over 24 months it could work out a bit painful in the long term. Also watch that you do not go over your bundles coz OOB(out of bundle) rates are VERY PAINFUL.

Ok seems the unrestricted APN solves the problem of incoming connections but from what I can see you can't get a static IP address from any of the Mobile operators?

I have several domains and need to forward mail so not sure if dyndns would work, we currently have a static IP on an ADSL connection.
