3g Router with Virtual server + connection issues

Good Day

I am having problems relating to 3G routers.

I currently have a Sitecom WL-610. My office is in Lanseria and my only connection option is 3G.
The connection is fine on HSDPA through the WL-610 using a K3715 USB modem, but as soon as it switches to 3G (light blue to dark blue) the internet connection dies and comes alive again when going back to HSDPA.

I am connected to the Vodacom unrestricted APN, not the internet APN, so that I can utilise DYNDNS for servers. I also have a virtual server configured on the router to direct public ports to local ports. This is because I have accounting software running on my local server that can be accessed over 3G.

As you can imagine this is not possible when the 3G is down. Very frustrating. So I went and bought a new router, The TP-link MR-3220. This router maintains the 3G connection but I now I cannot configure the Virtual server to direct from a public port to a local port, only from a public port to a local IP.

Will upload screen shots it need be. Hope I have explained this right.

Please can someone either recommend a way to fix the connection problem with the Wl-610, or tell me how to configure the MR-3220 for virtual servers, or recommend a solution using a combination or the 2 routers, or recommend a different router that will solve any and all of the above.

Many thanks.

Travis

Hi Tsponge,

Not sure if I can answer your question, but I have one of my own. How have you configured your 3G account to connect to the unrestricted Vodacom APN?

To maybe address your problem, have you considered getting an external antenna for your 3G card? Poynting has 3G booster antennae for a number of 3G dongles, which might address your problem of dropping from HSDPA to 3G.

Not sure if I am understanding your problem, though. Why can't you get incoming connections on 3G? Or is it just that the speeds make it unusable?

Do you have line-of-sight from your Lanseria office to the Sanlam Center building in Randburg?
Or to the flats building next to it (Rand President)?

If yes, get a Microtik link installed (108Mbps in the free frequency range) between your Lanseria office <-> Randburg building <-> Randburg based ISP.
They can also provide you with a static IP (no fiddling with DDNS).

With a 2 hop link (ISP to your office) you should get about 3Mbps from a home-based ADSL link to your office in Lanseria.
