3G Signal BB 9900

Hi fellow myBB'ers,

I want to find out if there are any other people who are struggling to pick up 3G signal, but hear me out. The 9900 picks up 3G signal BUT there is now paw next to the 3G which means no data incoming and outgoing?

I am on MTN...and stay in JHB

Anyone else know what the problem may be?

Paw. I'm busy hosing myself. It is the blackberry logo. When its there it means you are connected to "High speed" BIS.
 
Haha I thought it looked like a "paw" hence my usage of that word.

Yeah the blackberry symbol, just sometimes disappears and it only displays "3G". Sometimes this happens on and off, its happened for over a day at one stage, then nothing works, BBM, and all the BIS related apps stop working. It is extremely frustrating because not even the BB browser works, basically the phone becomes useless because as BB users know, a blackberry totally relies on BIS and internet connectivity to run.

Does anyone else who has a 3G BB experiencing this problem at all?
 
Yeah...switched it off & using edge. Score on battery life at least but its sad. Inclined to blame it on the network not the handset though since other phones here (e.g. Nokia) battle too.

Since switching from VC to MTN recently I get the impression that the MTN network is broadly speaking inferior...though maybe only in PTA/Midrand area. At the office (near N1) I get freakin GPRS. Other place (Gauteng business parks) I sometimes (briefly) get SOS calls only...meaning zero MTN reception not even GSM. WTF. Maybe Gauteng is consider to be a rural area by MTN planners.

Never saw a single SOS only on VC in like 5 years, except when in the sticks.

More technical details on this pls.
 
I stay in North East suburbs of Joburg. I do randomly get that SOS thing, but the "paw" (blackberry logo) always shows when I have 3G signal...
