I pick up 24 different towers from where I live. I figured out that the reason why the latency is that much is because it switches every few seconds to a different tower. ARGGH

I had the same problem last night, no worries.... I'm on it :p

lol thanks. I got really frustrated when I spent almost an hour refreshing web pages. Is it possible to lock it on one CellID? 15440 is quite nice :)

Wanted to play WoW but how the connection was I figured I'd have more XP if I just watched some TV ;)

I had a ping of 662 - 680 the whole time but got massive lag spikes because of the changing of thowers the whole bloody time. I think my main tower might have been down, now what happens is that the device will search for the strongest signal within range. Obviously all the others might have been on the same signal range to an extant and then it will switch from one to the other as the usage increased/decreased on such towers. Just a guess though. The tower on the hill behind me there by the Hyperama is the one I need them to have a look at. I assume you're using the same one.

On the dashboard there's an option to select a service. Well on VMCLite. There you can select a tower. I don't know how well it works, I couldn't get it to work, maybe you'll have more luck.

Edit: Tools -> Select Network

I have direct LOS (200m?) of that tower

Then we're having the same issue on the same tower.

Maybe it's because you are raping my tower now

:D

lol, with the 50 meg bandwidth I have to save until the 28th because MTN is too ****ing stupid to allow top-up gigs to be bought within a 30 day window period on the same sim card?

naw, I barely browse myBB...

Got hooked up with one of those multi mount Pointing or what ever Arials. Connected it and lets see what it does to my signal :)

Will feedback tomorrow :)

Now to go create my druid. Will /w u Acid

The main reason I ditched MTN for telkom

Ran out of bw surfing yesterday. what a bitch to buy airtime to buy another bundle (if I can even load another bundle before the 28th!)

Might as well load a data bundle on my contract. Just means I won't be contactable because I'll be surfing the intarwebs

Last night I left the thing on to see how many towers

On average the device jumps to 5 different towers every 2-3 minutes.

The longest connection it had to 1 tower was 9 minutes. No wonder my lag is ****ing terrible

How do you check the tower which the modem uses? Is it MTN only?

The last week I had extremely bad connections. I connect easily enough, but I about 3000+ latency on WoW with a lot of lag spikes. The only reason I don't die on a regular basis is because the mobs is lower level and I only pull one at a time. If I pull too many, I just run like the hounds of hell is on my tail, since that is the only thing that really works.

Don't think it's a problem with your modem switching towers, allot of guys playing WoW on VC 3G has been having serious lag problems the last month or so, mine is averaging 1500ms these days.

there's a program someone mentioned in this thread that shows which towers your modem jumps too all the time

should work for vodacom too

I am extremely happy to report that I am no longer forced to endure 1.5 -> 6 seconds LAG on vodacom or mtn "broadband" products anymore.
/me kisses me ADSL line and slips it some tongue
I could actually play a BG last night with ease, been 4 months since I could do that.

Which thread? It's not in this one, since I just read it 3 times completely through.

I did post in the gaming problems thread in the Vodacom subforum, but no response as of yet. If this keeps ups I'll have to start playing Witcher again.
