Has anyone been able to set-up a PDA to connect via 3G to the internet using a Sony Ericsson V800? I managed to connect my PC through Bluetooth and the USB cables, but my PDA is refusing to cooperate.

I read a review on the DELL Axim50V (which is what I am using) and the author claims he was able to do this by using the correct modem initialization strings

I am using +cdgcont=3,"IP","Internet"
The number I am dialing is *99***3#

It also does not work without the string (it does on XP)

This is the same sting that I use for the PC connection (Win2000)

The phone just does not start dialing, it establishes the Bluetooth connection but no dial…

The 3g Vodacom support helped me before with the PC connection, but yesterday they told me to use 5 in stead of 3 which does not make sense as the internet pre set ID on the phone is 3….. this did not work

Anyone have any advice please?

Answer:

The correct string is &FE0S0=0
It now works fine (Have to check the speed still)

I got this from the UK users group who uses the same interface as MyADSL!

Vodacom3g please note this and send to the 3g support group as they are still unable to setup the V800 as a modem (even to pc’s) in some cases

My friend last week phoned me and I had to assist him with his V800 after he spent approximately 4hours with Vodacom support and they were unable to help him

This was after Vodacom support (someone different) who was very knowledgeable was able to help me 2 weeks before – it seemed that the information was not shared in this case

Umm...

Ok I'll try and help you out here quickly... It's very late and I'm real tired.

The CID "3" youre useing refers to the data account "Vodacom" on your V800.
since you can't view or edit it I would have no Idea what it does.

In the intrim to set you up, have the "Internet.GPRS" settings for the Z1010 sent to your phone. (That would be CID "4" if you haven't tried setting up another data account.)
I hope this link to sonyericsson works: Link

If you manage to get this right let me know. If you still have probs - ask. I'll try to help. I'm too tired to make a full-length post.

so in short:
For your phone's default data account use *99#
for CID 1 (or first data account) use *99***1# (VLive! on the V800)
for CID 2 (or second data account) use *99***2# (VLive!MMS on the V800)
for CID 3 (or third data account) use *99***3# (Vodacom on the V800)
for CID 4 (or fourth data account) use *99***4# (Whatever data account you configure on the V800 - In my case the Z1010 settings called "Internet.GPRS" modified to use the internetvpn APN)
etc...

I hope this helps.

What did they want you to use *99***5# for? do you have an data account setup on CID 5?
