Hi

I have setup a WRT54GL with openVPN and can connect to the VPN from a remote site through a ADSL connection. I cant however get it to work via my 3G datacard connection.

Does anyone have any clues to this?

Thanks

What type of network connection is the WRT54GL attached to?

Hi

This is my setup.

I have a AM200 linksys ADSL modem on Site A with the WRT connected to it. I have the Tomato Firmware on the WRT with the OpenVPN mod. I have the openVPN client on my laptop. From my office I can make the VPN connection into Site A through my ADSL. When I hook up my 3G card out of the office, I cannot get a VPN connection. With the 3G it times out when openvpn hits the dyndns IP.

Are you on the unrestricted APN? I think it is required for incoming connections.

Hi

Is the internetVPN APN active on the sim in the datacard?
If not, contact 155 for them to activate it.

Cheers

From the description of your setup it sounds like things should work that way. Do you have tcpdump on the router that might help you see if your connection from 3G is actually getting to the router? Can you ping the dynip or access some other service other than OpenVPN over 3G?

Should not need unrestricted APN. His machine (client using 3G) is sending a connection to the WRT (server using ADSL). internetvpn APN might be one option, but I can connect to my works OpenVPN connection while on the internet APN, so there must be something else.

The internetvpn APN has been deprecated in favour of the internet APN which performs exactly the same function as the internetvpn APN - AFAIK the internetvpn APN is now just another alias for the internet APN.

My log file on the WRT shows that it is trying to initiate a connection with the ip address of my 3g connection but just times out.

I will try to get the internetVPN activated to see what happens.

Thanks

Try a tcpdump as well to see which side is not talking. I suspect internetvpn is not going to solve your problem. If you like you can PM me for an email address and send me some keys and I can help you test from home tonight.

Ok I dont know how long the internetvpn takes to activate but I did it about 2 hrs ago and still no luck throught the 3G connection. Like I said my current setup seems to work fine over a ADSL connection.

I am going to give the bridge mode on the modem a shot. Also like I said earlier the log file of the WRT shows a peer connection initiation with the IP address of my 3G connection but just sits there. I can ping the dyndns address from the 3G connection.

You need to change your VMC connection settings to use the internetvpn APN.
