hey guys i just got adsl a day or 2 ago. and i read that the 3gig cap only applys to international downloads, websights, but local is uncaped, i downloaded some files from games.saix.net and when i logon to my usage its gone up buy the ammount of mb i have downloaded from games.saix.net, Im a bit confused here what is the real story,

Everything counts towards your cap.

But once you're capped, only your international suffers. ie: Local is still 512, International becomes unusable.

Unusable in what sense? what kind of speeds can one get internationally?

At first I suspected that games.saix.net was hosted internationally (temporarily maybe?), but the IP (right now) appears to be: 196.4.79.14, and saix.net has the IP 196.25.1.200, which is confirmed by the DNS zone file A record.
I suppose the way it must be implemented by Telskum is: all traffic contributes, but when you tend towards the 3Gig limit, your international traffic is cRapped with a moerse contention ratio, and local is in theory left as is.

Geez i got adls, cos i thaught id have more freedome over 56k, but i guess not. my uncle in switserland pays 80 euro for an ADSL 768kbps connection and its not capped, or any off that ***** and that is including isp costs.

O almost forgot to ask. what about useing a non transparent fast local proxy serve to access overseas sights and downloads?

Krall - If you can setup that proxy hosted in SA, then you've:
1 - Got to keep it secret.
2 - You've gotta winner.
3 - Now you just need to add port forwarding for non browsing stuff.

Good luck finding someone who would agree to let you use their proxy free of charge. There are solutions like this but they come at a price, no freebies I'm aware of since Sentech's embarrassing mistake. :D

I'm going to try setup a CGI proxy on my hosting space for eventualities like this. I get 3.5gig of traffic a month on it and I only use about 500meg - I may as well make use of it when the cap expires to surf international sites, assuming it works of course :D

Thanks, im still getting use to this router, how do i setup port forwarding,
