3KW or 5KW setup - please advise

I do have plans to install a "solar afdak"of 4 more panels. But besides that, as I said before, on sunny days with the 5KWh at 25% in the morning it is fully charged around 2PM. No chances of that happening now. :sneaky:

How was day 1 with the new larger battery?
 
It looks like the panel on the other side might also get a small afternoon shadow from the small ledge between the houses.

Considering there was plenty of clouds - very good. Second best solar yield of the month at 11.4kWh - was off eskom from around midnight till after 8pm and the battery is at 66%. Had lots of washing to do so the washing machine and dryer ran a lot.

I hope to be like OP soonish

I just ordered 6 x 555w panels, they on special for R1999.00.
I can get 5.5kva 5500w hybrid inverter with wifi new for under 8k. Not concerned yet about the batteries at the moment, this is optional anyhow - the idea is to go off grid during the day, see if I can reduce the eskom usage around 60-70%. I will have 4 standard 12v batteries just as a temporary solution for them cloudy days. I will get a 48v lithium battery around October next year.
Just waiting to see if my electrician can issue a COC or not.

Nice upgrade, congrats. I was consdering doing the 14.5KwH Volta thicc boi on my 5kw Sunsynk.

Did your installer not advise against it given your charge rate from the grid on your 5KW inverter?

I haven't looked at the specs of the inverter yet so would be interesting to see and monitor how this charges.

I am not sure I follow with regards to the charge rate?

The whole idea was to have enough battery capacity to store a whole days' worth of solar power from my 2kW PV array.
So yes - I want charging to take place from sunrise to sunset. A rate of 1 charge over the whole day.
 
Yesterday was pretty good, 12.6kWh solar yield. Today I am hoping for even more. Last time we used eksdom was yesterday from 5am to 7am.

From the manual, recommended battery capacity is 200ah whereas the Volta is 280Ah. But if its working then no problem I guess.

Is it able to charge from the grid?

Ah ok - very good point.

The installer did upgrade the DC breaker and cables between the battery and inverter. I did a reset on the settings and only changed the on grid EOD to 30%. The rest is at the default values. So 110Adc charge/discharge limits.

The inverter is connected to the battery via CAN so it knows the actual BMS limits too.

If I do go with a solar afdak it will be for the stoep next to the pool. At most I will be able to fit another array of 4 panels (2.2m X 1.1m 550watt ones). Being a dual MPPT inverter means I will be able to run them on their own string.

This in Cape Town? My roof is out of bounds for an install. This would be a possible solution.
