Is it worth the saving to buy for example on Amazon? Lcally a battery for my Nikon D5500 is R1 200.

On Amazon I can buy an Amazon Choice 3rd party battery for R180. Which means I can buy 6!
Anyone had any experience with this?

It's definitely worth it for me, avoids having to charge batteries all the time when travelling. I've bought quite a few generic batteries from Aliexpress sellers for my GoPro and Canons (G7X,650D) and none of them have blown up yet.

You might have problems shipping batteries internationally.

When I bought my camera I bought 2 extra batteries from a 3rd party manufacturer. I labeled each battery numerically so that I would use them in sequence, ensuring that each battery gets used equally. Its been 4 years and the original battery has just died however the 3rd party ones are still fine. Take from that what you will.
