So got into an accident a few weeks ago, not my fault, so busy claiming from 3rd party insurance. Got quotes and sent to them, but I'd like to fix my car in the meantime out of pocket, I can't wait any longer, can I or do I have to wait for them?

These insurers are sneaky AF so don't want to do something that will give them a reason not to pay.

Prepare yourself for a long battle, I did it once took me over half a year, they constantly came up with reasons why they shouldn't pay. Of course first reason. It was my fault, when that was ruled out they told me we were both at fault as it happened at a parking lot so we didn't look out for each other. That one was ruled out as well. Then they asked me why I just din't claim from my own insurance. Then they started to claim some damage was not caused by that accident. In the end they paid because i did not give up. They try anything in the hope you give up, but don't fix it yourself in the mean time is my best guess.

Ja I've noticed that these bastards tend to ignore you in the hope that you go away, but I pester them every other day.
I know it'll take a while, I've been warned by many, that's why I want my car fixed in the meantime as I need transport.

I had a 3rd party insurance claim recently, I posted some bits of it on this forum.

Total turnaround time was 6 months, of which for 3 months I wasn't doing anything.

I would advise the OP does nothing to the car until one of the assessors views the car, if they don't assess they will cap their pay out.

Car was already assessed.

I'll hold off then.

Once they give you a settlement offer the pay out is pretty quick.

If there is a delay in getting to this point perhaps lodge a complaint. Most of the delay in my claim was due to me and not the insurance company.

Well it looks like it's nearing the end now. Called 3rd party and spoke to them at length, so I should be receiving a settlement offer by next week.
