When I started with uncapped ADSL a while back, I chose 1Mpbs to keep costs down, and downloaded the internet every month (100-180GB per month). Then along came Afrihost with R699 for 4Mbps line + uncapped, and it was a small jump in price for 4 times the speed. We all know what happened when they switched to MTN...

Now I'm using Openweb 2Mbps uncapped Gold (on special for R360pm) on a 2Mbps, since I don't download that much, and 4Mbps uncapped Gold, even on special is just too much.

Here's the thing. In the last 4 months I have averaged 40GB/month, and I don't see it increasing much anytime soon. I want a fast line, so when I download the 2GB SQL Server 2012 Express doesn't take 3-4 hours. But, I don't want to pay for the privilege of being about to download several hundred GB per month, which I will never do again (anytime soon).

I'm thinking a large capped account on a 4Mbps line will work. But at R413 for the line, plus R400 for 50GB (Afrihost), I may as well stay on uncapped. Only thing on uncapped is, when I want something, I want it now, at full line speed, or thereabouts, not throttled/shaped to 50%.

What other options do I have?

Uncapped isn't just for downlading the internet. Don't know why everyone thinks that.

It's for peace of mind. One less worry in your life. The internet just works.

My advice is stay on 2meg if 4meg is above your budget.
