#Eskom confirms four executives have been asked to "step aside" while inquiry into utility runs.

Eskom chairperson Zola Tsotsi announced on Thursday that CEO Tshediso Matona has been suspended as well as other executives and a full inquiry is to be launched into Eskom.

Tsotsi told media at Megawatt Park that the four executives - including Matona, finance director Tsholofelo Molefe, group capital executive Dan Marokane and technology and commercial executive Matshela Koko - were suspended so that an inquiry could take place with unfettered access to Eskom.

"There is nothing sinister happening," he said. "This is a fact-finding inquiry ... which will last for three months."

"If in the process of this fact-finding process that are un-proper or in-proper conduct, then we will have to address those things,"he said. "But we are not setting out with that in mind."

What the actual fsck?

Are the board a bunch of unutterable retards?

Right when we actually need leadership continuity at a company like Eskom they go and roger that in the nether regions.

Well no. When there's an independent inquiry it's good that the people that could be adversely affected by that inquiry are removed from the picture so they cannot interfere.

Usually I'd agree wholeheartedly with you..

Just in the case of Eskom right now, these kinds of "interruptions" have the possible effect of really screwing this country over for even longer and we really can't afford that right now.

Exactly.

This inquiry feels like a witch hunt in the making. Blame the executives, golden handshake and put new people in place. The problem is: having an inquiry does not solve the problems. Aging generators, delayed new power generation, high costs in generating energy, selective debtors collection, political influence. Action is required.

South Africans should brace for announcements by the Eskom board of massive further cost overruns at Medupi and Kusile in the days ahead.


There is big ***, these four are going to get seriously implicated by this inquiry if it runs its course properly...
 
Tshediso Matona has only been in the job for just over 6 months, and has been the only person to openly discuss Eskoms situation with the public.

Is this a case of scapegoating?

Consider that the former Eskom CEO Brian Dames – who in 2014 received the highest executive pay at the company in more than a decade – also received a R1.92 million payout in long-term incentives and a R5 million package at the end of his contract.
