So I've upgraded to the 4mb telkom line. ISP is a telkominternet. But every few hrs it drops the connection.

I have a billion 5200s as the modem in bridged mode and a WRT54g handling authentication.

Here are line details pulled from the modem:

value on the left: down on the right: up
---------------------------

SNR Margin

20.0 13.0 db

Line Attenuation

42.0 22.5 db

Data Rate

:
4096 384 kbps

The values look ok as i'm only about 2500m from exchange.

So when it drops i call the help desk and after waiting 45 minutes to get through, by that time I can connect again and they test the line and say there is nothing wrong with it?

What should i do?

explain the problem to the techy on the line, tell them it's intermittent and request that they reset your ADSL port.

Often this is all that's needed to correct constant resets on the ADSL connection, your stats are about right for 2.5km from the exchange.

I have two sites that exhibit similar problems on occasion and this resolves the issue instantly, in fact my home line started resetting every 20 minutes and after a port reset, every 12 hours (as per the Telkom reset)
