hi guys, giant issue here, on Tuesday i got a 4 Meg upgrade on my line.

All great, getting speeds of 200+ kBps. For around 2 hours, then things went downhill, line goes down to sub 2 KBps. Phone telkom, telkom tries to fix; line doesnt sync anymore, line is: dead.

Friday:

Line gets repaired, i yell at techie who phoned me to confirm the line working now, "its still slow you bum!"

techie "eish, phone customer support"

Me "no no you dont understand the line itself is slow!"

techie "..........."

i curse extremely loudly and vow to drive around and moer everyone who has a telkom sticker on their bakkie's door.

Things that ive tested:

2 routers: check, not the router
2 OS's: XP and apple os x, not the os
3 ISP's: not the isp, three different isp's
line throttling: customer support, we put lines on 1 mb, 512 and 2 mb, makes no difference.

I NEED HELP!! ANY IDEAS WHAT MIGHT BE THE MATTER WITH THIS LINE?

Can anybody please pm me a number of pretoria techies? i really need this issue resolved its driving me insane waiting for www.myadsl.co.za to load for 2 minutes.

thank you in advance.

ok for some reason my speeds are back up: getting 120 kBps on telkominternets speed test, wierd, ill post if any changes occur...

ok dammit its gone back to 1 kBps, was good for about 30 minutes... what the hell is going on.... anyone?

ok speeds are back up again, can anyone explain why i would be experiencing fluctuation?

-i'd do tests like :

*look at your SNR/Attenuation values over intervals - use routerstats plotter if needed (use google (routerstats)) - if it doesn't work - check in 10-15min intervals.

*how is your connection to your router -t ping (ping 10.0.0.2 -t)
*how is your connection to telkom/saix -t ping (ping 41.242.128.1 -t)

*do you use wired/wireless setup

*try the ping test with different isps

*try all the above with different routers.

*take it slowly :)

note**if you downgraded your speed to your initial speed - its surely not the line - but check above anyhow

hi there oupa, i tried 2 different routers, an ethernet one and a wireless one. Both gave the same speeds. :(

ok guys, how do i get my SNR and attenuation values?

this is wierd, but the highest speed ive gotten to was about 90KBps so far, locally...

this is very wierd, so the line is fine at night time, but its dead in the day, maybe its because the other folks on the exchange are using their connections then?

ive tried the monitoring app, but it doesnt feature my router sorry!

ok, i got a wi fi monitor thing going, it states that i have a dbm or something like that of -65, is that good or bad?

on and off on and off

saffakanera, i had the exact same problem.....
ask the telkom guys to come and check the copper wires and to see if its under mud or anything..... (lots of rain recently)

i got myne fixed directly after but before that i had to live with it for 2 months
