BT has fired the first shot in a broadband speed war with the launch of a service it claims will transform people's use of the internet.

Its superfast 'infinity' broadband will offer download speeds of up to 40 megabits per second (Mb/s) - some five times faster than the current standard speed of up to 8Mb/s.

The download speed is the rate at which home computer users can download music, video and images from the internet.

Separately, the system has an upstream speed - the rate at which users can upload material to the internet - of 10Mb/s.

Sadly I dont think we will see these offerings in my lifetime in South Africa

I saw that.

For 20 Pounds a month I would be happy with even a quarter of that speed.

Even with "up to ...... " I think it will be a lot better than what we have.
 
I would be happy with 1/10th of that.
Were my eyes fooling me or did i read there was limited downloads?
could have been for their 8 meg one though
