4000+ vs 3600+ Brisbane

Hiya,

Jst wanted to put something past you guys, I plan on going x2, on a Biostar T-Force 6100 am2, ..now they're great OC'ers for Micro-ATX boards, but it seems 270HTT seems to be the, plus or minus, best that I can expect.(with the right BIOS)

Sooo, my thinking is that I should spend +/-R200 more for the 4000+'s 10.5x multi over the 3600+'s 9.5x..!?

I aim to hit 2.8 - 3.0GHz, which seems very do-able with what I've read and seen.

I'd appreciate any input, thanks..

I wouldn't go for AMD for overclocking PC's

Intel Pricing dropped a lot today

there are some good overclocking P5K or P5B Asus motherboards

you can get a E4500 that runs 2.2Ghz stock clock with a FSB of only 800mhz.

THat makes them great overclockers, even on cheap motherboards.

E4500 should be a similar price to the 4000+, otherwise there is the E2140 @ 1.6Ghz that matches the 3600+ for price, but overclocks far better.
 
How much for those boards? Which P5B version, cos I'm a little confused by all the suffixes, ..well the major reason I was thinking of AMD was because the 6100 AM2 is about R849,

..OH and the fact that I have a Micro-ATX case, and so far I have been unable to find a good-OCing 775 Micro-ATX board..:/

At 3.0GHz, the 3600+ beats the FX62, only going neck to neck on Cache related tests..

Doesnt the 3600 have a 2GHz core so its multi is 10x? Or maybe there are 2 versions now.

R849 for that Biostar is a bit much. Should be more like R680...
 
It's 1.9GHz I believe.. and the 4000+ is 2.1GHz, 9.5 and 10.5 respectively..

Personally I don't trust biostar, but you could go much worse.

Basically Asus generates their motherboard model numbers like so

Example:
P5B - P is for the CPU make (currently P= intel M= AMD)
- 5 is for the generation (basically Socket 775)
- B is for the Chipset generation (any stuff after the B is generally variations on the chipset

Then you usually get a hyphen with either a "V" "VM" or "MX" after. Those boards are the MicroATX board with various spec levels with V being highest and MX being lowest.

THen they might decide to add something after the whole lot like "premium" or "Wifi" or "Do"

In general ASUS Boards are more pricey, but they do come with more stuff.

This board is pretty pricey, but how many MicroATX board has 8 sata ports (1 Esata) and a PCI-E 4x slot (can take 1x cards too)

This new Intel G33 Chipset replaces the 965. It supports Intel 1333FSB CPU's and can overclock the FSB to massively high levels (some people say 1700FSB) The chipset cooling is also very effective. Price??? I think about R1500-R1600

My advice would be to go for one of those 2 boards and overclock the **** out of the best affordable dual core Core2 you can find.

Thanks a lot mate, but again, im looking for a budget orientated OC for my existing case, so ATX is out, and again, that board apparently doesn't OC well.. but I see your point!
If I had the cash I would seriously consider it!
 
Nothing wrong with Biostar, only brand I've had that succesfully gave me a 30% overclock. Just because it isnt as well known in SA doesnt mean its crap. I've had more Asus board give me problems than Biostars.

Anyway, I checked and you do get two 3600+s. The one is 2GHz with 256k x2 cache, the other is 1.9 with 512k x 2 cache. 2GHz will be my pick this month for my first dual core, and I'm gonna overclock it...
 
Apparently the Brisbanes (1.9GHz, 2.1GHz) overclock better (3600+ Windsor= +/-2.6GHz, Brisbane= almost guaranteed 2.7GHz-2.8GHz and 3.0GHz+ is quite common), from the reviews I've read, and consume less power and run cooler due to the 65nm vs 90nm fab. process.
..and has the 512Kb vs. 256Kb L2 Cache..

Thanks Idol, but I'm really looking to have a Brisbane core, and one of those cheap 2x1GB DDR2 800 specials.. :P
