Unstable. SNR will drop even further with the speed increase and you may experience disconnects.
 
What do you mean by flaky Grouter?

You will definitely not get the full 45250 kbps sync rate of a 40Mbps likely around the 30 or 32Mbps rate and that will cause SNR to be at 6dB or just below leaving very little room for variation of noise levels. This would mean if anything happens that increases the noise even slightly the modem will re-sync.

Yes, that's what I did until our area was bombarded by the FNOs recently after being ignored for many years.

It was solid as a rock at that speed.
