41MP camera smartphone to lead Nokia device push

Well this is a photo from a 39 Megapixel camera.

I take it that extra 2 megapixels will enable me to see the mouse pube on the cheese a bit more clearly?
 
What is the big difference when looking at a photo taken with my Canon 600D at 18 megapixels, my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 at 8MP, or the 41MP photo taken with a Nokia, when looking at a standard sized photo?

Are Nokia cell phone manufacturers, or camera manufacturers?
 
Clearly these cellphone cameras aren't the reason phones sell, so why keep upping/concentrating on said cameras so much? I'm sure a 13mpx camera with a good sensor is plenty for a cellphone.
Although it's nice and everything, I think Nokia is really starting to miss the point here -and I don't think even a 400-superduper-awesome-cool-mpx camera is going to get them where they want to be.

Once you get past a coupla million pels, optics become more important. Bragging about 41 megapels is specmanship. They should be talking about the optics instead.
 
I've always said my next phone will be a camera as I use that functionality a lot. But I would rather settle for quality vs quantity. Unless it has proper optics, who cares.
 
I don't think it's such a bad thing, and I'd be interested to see the performance under different lighting contidionis. It would never be a deciding factor for me, but an interesting feature nonetheless.

Hahaha..Ok. Do yourself a favour mate and look into the sensor in the 808 and the shots leaked from the Nokia 1020 and see what kind of zoom and optical wizardry Nokia can put into phones.
 
Pureview is amazing technology. The optics Nokia has used in their phones has always been one ahead of the rest. Yet despite that I moved to Android last year, had a few Galaxies and now a Nexus 4. The cameras are good but nowhere near as good as on a Nokia phone. However that is not going to make me go back to Nokia, neither will Windows Phone, but it is pretty damn nice.

Nokia should focus on being a hardware maker. Just like other phone makers they can build their own phones and load it with whatever OS they see fit, be that Series40 (Asha), WP or Android. They should also use the advantage they have in mobile optics by licensing PureView to other manufacturers, and not only phone makers, this could work very well in entry level cameras too.

You're kidding right? Have you seen the pics of that hideous thing? No one in their right mind would touch that with a 10ft barge pole!

Actually go do some reading up on pureview tech,its not meant to show up as 41mp still its meant to show up as 8mp and 5mp stills but the extra mp's result in no quality loss when zooming and better pixel detail in normal conditions,so its optics without the optics.

This isnt a mp race the pureview cams are set to shoot at around 5/8 mp by default but they gain a lot from those possible 41mp due to unique compression.

Is the point not to eliminate the need for optical zoom, and therefore reduce the size of the lens?

pointless having a 41MP, when an 8MP takes perfect photo's..
Maybe the guy behind the lens is to blame :P
