Hi,

I've been looking at several +- 43" 4K monitors:

Dell P4317Q (+- R10.5k)
Philips BDM4350UC (+- R10k)
Acer ET430K (not available in SA)
LG 43UD79-B (not available in SA)

Does anyone have experience with these monitors?
I read about ghosting issues?
Any good deals in SA on one of these?

PS I currently have a Dell 27" 4K (P2715Q), fantastic monitor.
I want the 43" to replace 3 other 20" monitors I have. As I understand, it basically replaces 4 20" monitors.

Cheers!
Peter

Hi Peter. I replaced a quad-monitor setup with 2 x Philips BDM4350s. Haven't had the slightest issue with the monitors themselves - they're magnificent - though I'm still struggling to get the laptop+docking station to output 4K@60Hz on both monitors ... I can get one at 60Hz but the other, whether connected to the dock or to an adapter via TB3 on the ThinkPad, refuses to go above 30Hz. I suspect it's the Thunderbolt-to-HDMI adapter I'm using, so have ordered another which should be here any day. I'm not using these monitors for specialist work where colour calibration and correction is necessary, just regular office stuff. Glorious to have decent desktop real estate at 4K.

Thanks for your reply Arthur!
So is the burn-in issue true on your Philips BDM4350s?

"Burn in is an issue, and if you think you can avoid it you are wrong."

The above is the only reason why I have not yet purchased the BDM4350...
I will mainly use the screen for stock charting and trading...

I've had the two Philips BDM4350s for a year now. Haven't noticed any burn-in issue. A colleague got two about six months before I did, and he hasn't said anything about burn-in probs. My system runs 24x7, with display shutoff after an hour of inactivity.

Edit: Here's a quick snap. Flashless and a bit fuzzy (noticed some financial data was showing, so added a slight blur), but it gives you an idea of two 43-inchers next to one another.

I really appreciate your input Arthur.
Quick snap not showing?

Loot is currently selling it for R9600.00, bargain compared to other options...

Wow, that's a good price. Paid a kilorand more a year ago.

Since my last post, the new USB Type-C to DisplayPort Adapter arrived. I've just plugged it in and - at last! - both monitors at 3840x2160 @ 60Hz. Woohoo.

Noob question, will I be able to configure to have 4 separate screens on the BDM4350 with one HDMI 2 cable plugged in from one latop?

My understanding is that MultiView will support two PIPs, and up to 4 different inputs using PBP (Picture by Picture) - eg 2 x laptops, plus say sat decoder and blu-ray.

I don't use any of that. Just have one large desktop across two displays, so effectively 7680x2160.

Thanks for that bit of important info. I thought I can have 4 screens PIP with 1 laptop connected...
Seems PIP is standard only one extra screen on these monitors.

For your trading, why have multiple inputs? Just have the various sessions running in different windows in Windows, all arranged on the large desktop as you wish.

Yes, you are right... I have 4 programs that I need to view at the same time, and if all of them is on one screen it will just make it so much easier.
The Windows 10 split screen feature will work and give me 4 screens on the BDM4350. I just would have preferred if the screen could have had quadrant PIP feature, since the Win 10 split screen feature can be annoying sometimes.

I wouldn't even bother with the Windows Split Screen feature. Just have 4 windows sized and arranged as you wish.

This is what I mean -- here are 3 different browsers and the Windows Store app on one screen:
