Sorry I might be missing something, the "Cape" part in your post.... where in the article does that come from?

The part I read says:

Police have criminally charged 476 officers with corruption, defeating the ends of justice, fraud and extortion.

The charges were laid during the 2010/2011 financial year, which ended on March 31, according to the auditor general’s report, released with the police’s annual report last week.

A further 263 police officers were suspended, 215 without pay. While 479 corruption charges were brought against officers, three were charged with more than one crime.

Devill, it's in the iol article headline. But yeah... I also don't see anything in the body of the article.

Ah, then I am guessing the editor made a stuff up either forgetting to inform us that this is just for the Cape province or they made a mistake in the title.

Thanks Gary :)

if that really is true of just the Cape Province then I wonder what the national figures are? :D
Or does the Cape just prosecute them more vigorously? :D

Was thinking the same thing after reading this

Can not see the Cape alone paying out 85 Mil and being "billed" for R746 mil.

Well, yeah, consider the national figures and then also the number of cops who aren't facing charges who should be facing charges. Divide this number by the total number in the police force and the answer you arrive at is South Africa.
