Hi

My 4870x2 gets very hot. When i play games and minimize the game then the card is around 90 degrees. The fan is to its max and its still so hot. Is there a cooler that i can buy because i am getting worried. I have heard from friends that Radeon can handle that amount of heat, but i am not so sure.

Have you cleaned the dust bunnies out of your PC recently?
Next you can try reseating the heatsink with fresh thermal paste
Only then do you consider an after market cooler

Trying to find out for sure what the max temps are for that card - 120° seems possible

that card will cut out (i.e. system reboot) if it gets too hot. Then you'l know. You wont have some meltdown that takes your PC with it.. i promise... :/

Is there away i can lower the temps? with some sort of a fan or water cooler. I dont want to spend alot, because then i can buy a new card for all that money i spend.

Havent been able to find anything locally yet, x2 is a tough one. You could try taking the shroud off and cable tying some fans onto it. Ghetto mods ftw

I bought that cooler from a retailer locally. I Think it was Prophecy.
It works wonders!

i just saw it on Prophecy and its not so expensive, its around R600. What is the temps when the card is on heavy load ?

The X2 is allowed to go to nuclear mode and wont have a meldown, it will run at 90 °C factory out of the box if you push it.

it's normal. mine is at 58 °C and I just booted up, and it's idling.

remember, this card needs a lot of juice, almost 300 Watts if I remember correctly.

I use a normal fan or a cyclone fan/blower attached to the back of the pc by the expansion slots.

Normal fan: Open 1 or 2 expansion slots right next to the gpu, use an expansion slot cover to attach a normal fan pointing at your gpu's heatsink but at an outward angle, bend it to shape leaving the screw bit intact (so it blows ovet the heatsink and out the expansion slots you opened) and screw it on.

Running furmark back in the day when i had it overclocked it never went over 70 degrees. Plus with the cooler on 100% it was quieter than the stock one running at 40%.

Does the Accelero Extreme Plus cooler fits on a 4870x2. Because on prophecy that it supports the 4870 but i did not see a 4870x2.

Where can i buy a Accelero XTREME plus cooler for the 4870x2. i have looked on Take2, Prophecy, Sybaritic. Kalahari. I cant find the one for the 2 GPU's

What case are you using? How is the airflow within the case?

Not much point getting a cooler for the card if the airflow is the problem.

i am using a Cooler Master HAF case. There is plenty space for air flow
