4G+ Not Displaying on Galaxy S10+

Who is getting 4G+ displayed on their Galaxy S10+ with Vodacom?

The phone is definitely carrier aggregating but does not display 4G+ until the LTE signal aggregates with Rain network which is seldom.
I have checked this on the service menu.


If same Vodacom sim is placed in a Huawei P30 Pro, 4G+ is displayed whenever Vodacom is carrier aggregating and not only with the Rain network.

Is this a Samsung or Vodacom issue?

Samsung. Only shows 4G+ when the aggregated total bandwith is equal to or more than 20mhz. They mostly have 10 + 5mhz aggregation. Can be fixed with a software update though. Some XFA (Cell C, MTN and Telkom) Samsungs have this fix as requested by Cell C when they were advertising 4G+ like mad. Vodacom though don't advertise it and use XFV software on Samsungs so doubt they will request for this same fix. Huaweii on the other hand displays 4G+ as soon as any aggregation takes place. Hope this clears it up for you

i have read your comments above .
Whats strange for me, is that my
Samsung Galaxy Note 5 on XFV , shows 4+ (constantly) ,
as soon as i enable my data . ( home location )
( Haven't had any device software update for it , for long time , as its older than 2 yrs .)
Yet , my other devices including , Note 9 also XFV ,never shows 4+ , ( home location .)
However my Note 9 , has shown 4 + ( certain area ) if i change my location . ?
Any comments /speculation ,as to why ?

Great answer. It just shows how behind South African networks are in respect of CA. I'm sure this is mainly due to lack of freed-up radio spectrum that has not being sold off or allocated by ICASA as yet.

Some USA and European networks enjoy up to 6 band CA and the best we get is a 2 band CA with a bandwidth of 20Mhz at best and an average bandwidth of 15Mhz.

Note 5 was one of the first 4G+ capable phones. Maybe that rule hasn't been implemented at that stage yet?

Yes you are correct. It is due to lack of spectrum. MTN at most does 20mhz (band 1,3 and 8) but more commonly 15mhz (band 1 and 3), Vodacom roaming on rain 30mhz (band 3 and band 38) but also more commonly 15mhz (band 1 and 3), Telkom 40mhz (band 40 + band 40) more commonly 15mhz (band 1 and 3), Cell C only does 15mhz (band 1 and 3) and Rain also aggregate 30mhz (band 3 and band 38). So at most it is 3CA for us here in SA
