Hey there Everyone.

Basically registered just to found out a way to get this fixed.

I live in Weltevreden Park and i am on the Panorama Exchange.

I have a 4mb line that i have had for roughly 3-4 months. when I first got the line I was achieving near to 4mb speeds which made me utterly happy.

Over time my speed has decreased to the point where I am quite lucky if I get 1.4mb line speed.

I have logged call after call with Telkom but to no avail.

What do i do now?

Hi Cliff

I had the same problem a few months ago. What fixed mine was this. Make a note of what speed your modem syncs at (mine syncd @ 7000kbps) phone telkom (adsl helpline) and ask them to reset you ports and limit your sync speed @ say 5000kpbs. If you still have the problem phone them again and lower speed, if not run it for a week or so to see if you connection is fast ad stable and bump speed up to say 6000kpbs etc. Mine hit the sweet spot @ 5000kpbs. and is stable @ 4000kbps and ping of 40ms. Hope this helps.

Welcome to the power of a congested exchange - Pinehurst/Sonstraal Durbanvile 4mbit synced (perfectly)
Test conducted on Tue Nov 13 2012 20:07:20 GMT+0200 (South Africa Standard Time)

Download Speed: 38 kbps (4.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 150 kbps (18.8 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 1468 ms

....
They "working" on it...

Who is your ISP?

Mweb uncapped 4mbit, but it's got nothing to do with them, I get the same results on guest@telkomadsl.

Symptoms are simple, 6:30pm till 2am in the morning the line goes for a pot of crapola, 2am~3am it recovers. 3am-9am I get full 4mbit (436kb/sec 12ms local latency) then the speed systematically starts getting less and holds around 300kb/sec till around 6pm and then from 6pm-6:30pm starts degrading with the whole thing striking the fan again from 6:30 onwards.

I the results are the same with Telkom Guest then you probably are on a congested exchange. Welcome to our world of pain.

@OP, shoot me your line number in a PM and I'll paste you a screenshot of the DSLAM stats. May help pinpoint where the issue may be

Oky i am not sure if i have the same problem?
Im in Mossel Bay

On a 4mb uncapped line..since last week my line went down to 2.2mb average

Restarted the router..renewd ip..phoned MWEB they reseted my port or router not sure ..but same thing?download stays at 2.2mb avrg.

But ping is at 38-40?
