Im not with MWEB - but if they didnt change their existing customers to the new pricing automatically, I would be very surprised (and disappointed)

I would believe you DSL line will/has been UPed to 10Mbps.

So to be saving you would after the upgrade confirmed by Telkom to MWEB, ask them to downgrade your line to 4 Mbps and then the new price will start to apply on your bundle.

Hi ramludh

I believe that your line would have been upgraded to 10Mb.

So if you call us and tell us to move your line to 4Mb then you will then be billed the new 4Mb all inclusive price

Oh Really...?

Then why is it when I do "Estimate my Next Bill" I get this:

"I-ADSL-AI-U4096K-M: ADSL Uncapped All Inclusive 4096 - Monthly - ADSL Line rental:" R899 ???

Do you see anything in that name to do with 6mbit or 10mbits?

No. The name of the product I am currently on is this:

I-ADSL-AI-U4096K-M: ADSL Uncapped All Inclusive 4096 - Monthly - ADSL Line rental: R899

The same product is now advertised as costing R769

This is not hard. It has nothing to do with upgrades.

Sorry to say but it HAS got to do with the upgrades.

Previously your line was a 4/10mb line. Now it has been set to a 10mb flat. Since the 2 -> 4 and the 4/10 -> 10mb.

Therfor your current account is 4mb DATA but the line part has been bumped to up till 10mb.

You need to DOWNGRADE your line to 4mb now. Once you do that you will get new price.

This is not hard to understand.

MWEB has me on I-ADSL-AI-U4096K-M: ADSL Uncapped All Inclusive 4096 - Monthly - ADSL Line rental. They are charging me R899 for this. I-ADSL-AI-U4096K-M: ADSL Uncapped All Inclusive 4096 - Monthly - ADSL Line rental: , MWEB Adsl: xxxxxxx, MWEB Mailbox: xxxxxxx (1/Jan/2014 - 1/Feb/2014) xxxxxx 01/01/2014 - 31/01/2014 788.60 1 788.60 110.40 899.00
TOTAL 788.60 110.40 R899.00

But this product costs R769 in January 2014.

You're being distracted by irrelevant things.

The name of the product I am on is I-ADSL-AI-U4096K-M: ADSL Uncapped All Inclusive 4096 - Monthly - ADSL Line rental. This product costs R769 on the MWEB website. They have it listed on my account as costing R899.

Do you see that both the line speed and the account speed in that name is 4Mbit.

This is not hard.

BTW there is no option at MWEB to have the bundled line speed at up to 10mbit/sec, and have data speed at 4Mbit. There is no such bundled product.

Okay. Let me try again slowly so you can follow.

*EXISTING MWEB 4mb premium customer.

Data rate = 4mb. Line was 4/10mb. Meaning that whatever your line COULD sync to it would take the highest. If your dslam was 10mb enabled the line would sync at 10. or 6 or 8 or anything stable between 4 and 10. You with me?

Now the upgrades hit. 2mb becomes 4mb LINES. 4/10mb becomes 10mb LINES.

Existing customers' LINES therefor were upgraded by TELKOM to 10mb LINES. Your data will be staying the same. So you're on a 4mb package with 4mb data rate with a 10mb LINE. Because you got bumped up by Telkom. You want to take advantage of the new price? Phone in and have the line DOWNGRADED to a 4mb LINE. (previous 2mb LINE)

** NEW customer signing up for 4mb package

They will sign up for the 4mb data and the NEW 4mb LINE - which previously was a 2mb. Therefor getting the saving.

Hope you could follow. As I said. Not difficult.

If Telkom never upped my line speed, I would still be paying R899 next month for a 4Mbit all inclusive account. This is the crux. At the same time MWEB lowers the price of their 4Mbit product but forgets (conveniently) to lower the price for their current customers.

Forget the upgrades. The account called 4Mbit all inclusive still costs R899 on MWEB's system.

You're distracted by irrelevant things.

There is no 4Mbit data/10Mbit speed account you can get at MWEB, which costs R899.

If there were no Telkom line upgrades...and Mweb adjusted the price and did not make it applicable to existing customers automatically then it would be robbery and fraud. I think this would be unlikely as all other variables would be the same and the package price would be changed. Therefor all customers on the same package would get the same price.

However in this case with line upgrades happening the package details on the surface might look the same, but they are different int he details. This whole switch over is a stuff up from many ISPs as there is no transparency or guides or a point of reference to explain these things to everyone.

If your scenario is to be taken (no upgrades) and you still would have been charged same price then Mweb would have been guilty of fraud. Again possible...but I think unlikely.

Hi

The product you previously had was a 4mbps data + 4mbps line for R899.
We have now reduced the price of the 4mbps all inclusive from R899 to R769.

Your line was upgraded to 10mbps free of charge by Telkom and you are eligible for that speed.
We cannot just downgrade your line speed for you and bill you on the new price.
What if you decided that you actually wanted a 10mbps line?

You benefited from the line upgrades and it wouldn't be right if we decided to drop your speed.
Likewise, we cannot just upgrade the account to 10mbps all inclusive and expect you to pay for it.

If you want to move to the 4mbps line + 4mbps data for R769 we will certainly downgrade the line for you.
Let me know and I can arrange it for you.

I am aware of that. It is the SAME at Afrihost atm. I am still paying R697 for my 4mb where the new price is R597. However I can see my LINE is 10mb! Irrespective of what is being advertised on the site. That is not the point. The point is TELKOM is charging Mweb on your account for a 10mb line. Therefor you will still be paying the old price.

What about this do you not get. Not being attacking. If there is something here not clicking please point it out and I will explain in greater detail for you. A lot of people are making the same mistake you are.

What about clients that Telkom did not upgrade to 10mbps? The exchange I am connected to only supports 4mbps, so for me there is no upgrade at all, my line still syncs at exactly 4096/512, surely clients like me will be moved to the new, lower price?

If I do the "Estimate my Next Bill" thing, it still shows me the old price of R899.

If there were no Telkom line upgrades...and Mweb adjusted the price and did not make it applicable to existing customers automatically then it would be robbery and fraud. I think this would be unlikely as all other variables would be the same and the package price would be changed. Therefor all customers on the same package would get the same price.

The Telkom line upgrades are irrelevant. How many times must I repeat this.

The account they are charging me for is called 4Mbit Line/Data. The price is R899. The new price however is R769. They want to continue charging R899. Line upgrades are irrelevant. What is key is the name of the account.

However in this case with line upgrades happening the package details on the surface might look the same, but they are different int he details. This whole switch over is a stuff up from many ISPs as there is no transparency or guides or a point of reference to explain these things to everyone.

Then the package name has to change and be called 10Mbit Line Speed/4 Mbit Data. Orihalcon, this is not difficult to understand.

If your scenario is to be taken (no upgrades) and you still would have been charged same price then Mweb would have been guilty of fraud. Again possible...but I think unlikely.

That's what is happening according to their control panel. The product is called 4Mbit line/4Mbit data and I am being billed R899 for it according to the system. While others will be billed 769.

MWEB does not know passively if my line is faster or not. For all they know, Telkom could have forgotten to upgrade my line. R899 is there regardless.

And that is why I said the switch over and handling of this is being done incorrectly and not handled properly by the ISPs as they are not explaining the effects properly and not communicating it to everyone.

You are being billed R899 because your line is a 10mb irrispective of what your package details says. Point case close. If you want to pay R769 then simply phone and have the line downgraded to 4mb.

Notwithstanding how this should have been handled better by the ISPs those are the facts. Phone, downgrade and be happy with lower price.

Mweb already explained and said they kept the lines bumped to 10mb as some customers might want to upgrade to 10mb data due to reduced prices. The choice is the customers. Excersise it and be done with it.

Easy.

Hi

The product you previously had was a 4mbps data + 4mbps line for R899.
We have now reduced the price of the 4mbps all inclusive from R899 to R769.

Yet the name of the account as per MyAccount in Jan 2014 is called still just that. 4Mbit. It's not a "4Mbit data/10Mbit line, account".

Your line was upgraded to 10mbps free of charge by Telkom and you are eligible for that speed.
We cannot just downgrade your line speed for you and bill you on the new price.
What if you decided that you actually wanted a 10mbps line?

That's your problem. You chose to go into the ISP business and sell packages and sell them this way. No one forced you to do this. Your marketing team had 2-3 weeks to figure this out. Instead you just carry on billing people the full price while without shame you drop the price for other customers.

You benefited from the line upgrades and it wouldn't be right if we decided to drop your speed.
Likewise, we cannot just upgrade the account to 10mbps all inclusive and expect you to pay for it.

You have a product called 4Mbit all inclusive. You now sell it at R769. I am on a product 4Mbit all inclusive. I have to pay R899. That's the issue and speed upgrades are irrelevant here.

It would make sense to release new packages and say call them 4Mbit data/10Mbit line speed and move people across automatically?
