So, this is just for me to do a quick comparison on my experience between the two.

Price. FNB Connect cost me R239pm, MWEB Premium Uncapped is R539pm

Normal Browsing, facebook and email:
This one I have to give to MWEB, in general websites load quicker, with FNB taking about 1-2 seconds longer to load.

Normal Downloading:
FNB is the clear winner to me here. I get near max download speed, and the speed remains constant. With MWEB the speed jumps around, with randoms spikes and a lot of slow downloading inbetween

Twitch Streaming:
FNB is the winner. I can watch streams while browsing on my phone. With MWEB, if I just thought about looking at something on my phone, the stream would go into loading mode.

PSN Preview Video:
Mweb is the winner here, as it starts quicker than FNB, however they both load throughout the video a couple of times.

Youtube: FNB is the winner here, as MWEB would stop to load throughout the video, where as with FNB that does not happen.

Netflix: FNB again is the winner here, again I can browse while watching a series in 720p, with MWEB that would cause the series to drop down to 480p.

Gaming: FNB is the winner. I can actually game on my PS4 while being connected with FNB, something I could not do with MWEB.

Torrents: FNB is very anti torrent, so MWEB is the winner here.

Technical Support: FNB is the winner, since I only got bad service from MWEB in the last 3 months.

Overall my verdict is, save yourself some cash, and get FNB. Better than MWEB. Unless you prefer only browsing and facebook, and have all the money in the world, then go with MWEB

Not so sure on the FNB i-net but in the name of science it would be interesting to know the same stats after the first month to see if/how the throttling/shaping happens.

Will do my best to hit a cap, but not making promises. I generally use about 200gigs a month on a busy month

My experience is with FNB capped, and MWEB uncapped and capped. While I have not experienced FNB uncapped, I find the below hard to make sense of because my experience is the direct opposite and I have 100% uptime and consistent performance, which is why I swear by MWEB. It is also the opposite of what many others have reported i.e. they are crap accounts which do not always work, with heavy shaping on torrents/NNTP. Though I'm open to things improving since - http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/671630-FNB-Connect-Uncapped-ADSL.

So, this is just for me to do a quick comparison on my experience between the two.

Price. FNB Connect cost me R239pm, MWEB Premium Uncapped is R539pm

MWEB 4Mbps Premium Uncapped offers 400GB of data per 30 day rolling window. FNB uses the IS star-based shaping system AFAIK and IIRC your rating will be degraded at amounts of significantly less than 100GB.

Normal Browsing, facebook and email:
This one I have to give to MWEB, in general websites load quicker, with FNB taking about 1-2 seconds longer to load.

This is the same experience I have. Everything is always fast, and everything always works with MWEB.

Normal Downloading:
FNB is the clear winner to me here. I get near max download speed, and the speed remains constant. With MWEB the speed jumps around, with randoms spikes and a lot of slow downloading inbetween

Please define normal downloading? HTTP? P2p is shaped during hours on MWEB and p2p downloads after hours are consistent.

Edit: I see you accounted for torrents below so I'm assuming you are referring to HTTP?

Twitch Streaming:
FNB is the winner. I can watch streams while browsing on my phone. With MWEB, if I just thought about looking at something on my phone, the stream would go into loading mode.

I've played ISP lottery specifically for Twitch streaming, and MWEB has always been the best. The same goes for Supersport. I stream HD always, any time of the day.

PSN Preview Video:
Mweb is the winner here, as it starts quicker than FNB, however they both load throughout the video a couple of times.

I would not know about PS4.

Youtube: FNB is the winner here, as MWEB would stop to load throughout the video, where as with FNB that does not happen.

This was not my experience with MWEB uncapped though at times throughput was limited, but nothing that would prevent HD/FHD steaming/cause buffering on my 6Mbps account.

Netflix: FNB again is the winner here, again I can browse while watching a series in 720p, with MWEB that would cause the series to drop down to 480p.

I cannot comment here but from what I know Netflix is perfect, as is all streaming because it's prioritised. I'm not sure if something has changed since OpenView. MWEB is always the ISP I advise for streaming, Apple TV, etc. I would be sad if Netflix streaming was bad? But have never read anything to suggest this.

Gaming: FNB is the winner. I can actually game on my PS4 while being connected with FNB, something I could not do with MWEB.

MWEB prioritises gaming and has an entire team dedicated to gaming. MWEB is one of, if not the best gaming ISP in SA. Let us note that your experience was a one-off which is not experienced by 99.99^% of people - http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/793703-PS4-Online-Gaming-on-MWEB.

Torrents: FNB is very anti torrent, so MWEB is the winner here.

See above edit.

Technical Support: FNB is the winner, since I only got bad service from MWEB in the last 3 months.

You've phoned or emailed or used social media to contact FNB ADSL support? I somehow doubt this?

MWEB support is the best I've ever experienced, particularly the call centre, a method which suits many people. Every time I call in for an ADSL username or password etc. the calls are answered instantly and details SMSed through. MWEBHelp has an excellent online presence here and on social media, with fast replies. There is live chat too. MWEB are renowned for their support.

The point here is that MWEB just works and there is seldom a need to call in or report issues, because it simply just always works.

Overall my verdict is, save yourself some cash, and get FNB. Better than MWEB. Unless you prefer only browsing and facebook, and have all the money in the world, then go with MWEB

That would soon change once you've been star-limited after using not all that much bandwidth, where MWEB would give you 400GBs per 30 days. You pay for what you get.

I have not experienced any downtime on FNB, ever. Whereas with MWEB, that is a whole different story.

This is the same experience I have. Everything is always fast, and everything always works with MWEB.
Have used more than 100gb of data already, have not had any degraded performance, and everything is just as stable as before.

I've played ISP lottery specifically for Twitch streaming, and MWEB has always been the best. The same goes for Supersport. I stream HD always, any time of the day.
Not my experience at all. FNB outshines MWEB Dramatically here. I don't stream Supersport, so can't comment on that, but since both are owned by Naspers, makes sense that SS will work on MWEB.

This was not my experience with MWEB uncapped though at times throughput was limited, but nothing that would prevent HD/FHD steaming/cause buffering on my 6Mbps account.
Yes, and I had a 4mb/s account. And I could not watch any youtube videos without it loading constantly. With MWEB, I don't have that.

Streaming Netflix works, but the moment you do any browsing on your phone for example (like checking facebook, reading emails, checking something on wikipedia) the framerate on MWEB drops down to 480p, where with FNB, it stays at 720p. This is my experience.

Yes, and that is why for more than a month I could not play any online games. They could not even sort it out before I left, but the moment I joined FNB, Viola, magically all the imaginary problems MWEB had with Telkom, My Router, etc magically disappears, and I am able to game again.

And also funnily. I am not the only person. I am hearing of more people in my group of friends on the PS4 having had the same issues. Most have already switched. And the ones who have not switched are planning to switch as soon as their cancellation period is over.

You've phoned or emailed or used social media to contact FNB ADSL support? I somehow doubt this?

I have phoned them. I had a problem with my DNS settings. They helped me to fix it. And then they phoned about 2 hours later just to make sure there are not any other problems I have that they can assist with. Unlike MWEB where they set up a phone call, meeting time. Then don't phone, and pretend that they did phone you, and that you rescheduled.

That would soon change once you've been star-limited after using not all that much bandwidth, where MWEB would give you 400GBs per 30 days. You pay for what you get.

TBH, I have not hit any star limitation yet. My experience over the past 9 days have been brilliant. And I have never been happier with my internet than I am now. My experience in the past 9 days have shown me that I made a mistake to stay with MWEB as long as I have.

My Experience is that the best move I ever made was to leave MWEB. And I would recommend to anybody who asks me to do the same.

Lol now Pot waffles on and on and on and on with groundless facts until the other person realizes that there is something wrong with him/her.

The person gives up because it just doesn't matter that much too them and their internet is once again working.

I have not experienced any downtime on FNB, ever. Whereas with MWEB, that is a whole different story.

Please expand on your downtime with MWEB? MWEB is never down.

Have used more than 100gb of data already, have not had any degraded performance, and everything is just as stable as before.

The star system is not as transparent as '400GB until you're throttled'. Please keep going and let's see if things remain as they are.

Not my experience at all. FNB outshines MWEB Dramatically here. I don't stream Supersport, so can't comment on that, but since both are owned by Naspers, makes sense that SS will work on MWEB.

I find it impossible that MWEB can be worse for streaming Twitch and YouTube when MWEB is known for its quality streaming of Twitch and YouTube. You will not ever read about a single streaming issue in the feedback thread for this very reason.

Yes, and I had a 4mb/s account. And I could not watch any youtube videos without it loading constantly. With MWEB, I don't have that.

You mean with FNB? Again, it's unheard of on MWEB. I'm wondering if this points again to a bizarre issue with your account/line/area causing these not heard of issues.

Streaming Netflix works, but the moment you do any browsing on your phone for example (like checking facebook, reading emails, checking something on wikipedia) the framerate on MWEB drops down to 480p, where with FNB, it stays at 720p. This is my experience.

Not sure why this would be the case, I really should get Netflix to test things out. But please do keep going with your FNB account, at your current rate you'll be at around 300GB by month end. This will be a good time to compare.

Yes, and that is why for more than a month I could not play any online games. They could not even sort it out before I left, but the moment I joined FNB, Viola, magically all the imaginary problems MWEB had with Telkom, My Router, etc magically disappears, and I am able to game again.

I know all about that as I was trying to help. The point though is that no one else has the issue. No one has any of the issues you do. Which must surely say something to you.

And also funnily. I am not the only person. I am hearing of more people in my group of friends on the PS4 having had the same issues. Most have already switched. And the ones who have not switched are planning to switch as soon as their cancellation period is over.

Please create a thread about it so that everyone having issues can comment. No one commented in your thread here - http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/793703-PS4-Online-Gaming-on-MWEB.

What DNS issues were you having? There is no bothering with DNS settings with MWEB, it just works. Sounds like modifying them, if you were doing this, could even have led to some of your issues.

TBH, I have not hit any star limitation yet. My experience over the past 9 days have been brilliant. And I have never been happier with my internet than I am now. My experience in the past 9 days have shown me that I made a mistake to stay with MWEB as long as I have.

How does one monitor usage with FNB? Screenshot please?

My Experience is that the best move I ever made was to leave MWEB. And I would recommend to anybody who asks me to do the same.

But no one will leave because their experience is not like yours at all.

How are these fools according to you suffering on MWEB? In which ways is their internet not working?

TBH, I am to lazy to quote every single thing you said. But regardless. MWEB for me has been down numerous times (where I could not connect until I switched off my router for over an hour. But you will probably blame the equipment again. Funny how it is always the equipment's fault, yet on other ISP's the exact same equipment just works.

As for streaming. Well, that is my experience. I don't care what MWEB was known for. Experience speaks for more than reputation, and my experience with MWEB was that I could not do proper streaming. Oh, and just because you find it impossible does not mean it is impossible. Fact was, for me streaming with MWEB did not work. FNB just does. No use arguing that point, as you cannot comment on my experience. And you mention that nowhere would I find ant problem with streaming. WRONG

YOUTUBE:

MWEB 4Mb Uncapped Premium - 38KB/s

Backup ISP account - 425KB/s

anyone else got a slow connection to twitch? been fine all weekend and today its struggling... get 4mb on everything, twitch is crawling at 80 - 120kb

And I am sure if I actually went digging, I could find more. But like I said, I am to lazy.

Oh, and yes, I mean with FNB it just works on the youtube part. But anyways, again you go blaming equipment, area etc. For goodness sake. How many times must I repeat myself, I have not changed any equipment, the only change I made was to switch ISP's, same router, same line same everything. But FNB works, where MWEB didn't. This clearly point to a problem with MWEB.

I have yet to see the star system in effect, so I cannot comment on it. And I will keep on going. I doubt I will hit 300gigs before month end, as my games for the month has finished downloading by now.

They are not on MyBB forums. They could not be bothered to get onto this.

My DNS on my desktop was manually set by MWEB while testing last year. I had to change that to automatic, and viola, it works.

I don't monitor using FNB, my router has a bandwidth monitor.

I doubt people will go back to MWEB, I know I never will. Why must I pay more, for a service that is worse than the one I am currently on? Why must I move from an ISP that allows me to game, to one that does not? Why must I give up streaming just to be on MWEB.

Only thing MWEB is good for is Browsing. Besides, I am sure you are happy, there is one less user with an average usage off about 200gigs a month to sour your experience. LOL

P.S. I am no longer going to answer anymore replies off yours PostmanPot. When you come back with hard stats, proving all your claims about MWEB being so great, done by an independent company, then I will believe it. But sadly I have yet to see anything to that effect.

At the moment, I will say this. All your points are hearsay, as my experience has shown me that none of them were true

Mweb is not the best for youtube from my experience. The only time i can ever see full speed on youtube is after 12 and early morning. Also recently i have been getting issues where the player will just stop buffering for a while then start buffering again but that could be related to something else.

Yes, that is definitely something completely abnormal. Anyone on MWEB, or any other decent ISP, will tell you that. Hell, the ISP doesn't even have to be decent. Not being able to connect is unheard of and it would be a non ISP related issue.

As for streaming. Well, that is my experience. I don't care what MWEB was known for. Experience speaks for more than reputation, and my experience with MWEB was that I could not do proper streaming. Your experience is completely bizarre, and to date I've never read about or heard of a single person with issues like yours. The fact is that everything just works for 99.99^% of people. Your experience is simply not what everyone else experiences.

And I am sure if I actually went digging, I could find more. But like I said, I am to lazy.

A quick account change is not proper troubleshooting. Account changes can temporarily alleviate equipment/line/Telkom issues. Far more testing is required, and your quotes are in no way indicative of any 'underlying problems' you may believe there are.

I'll PM them for an update.

Oh, and yes, I mean with FNB it just works on the youtube part. But anyways, again you go blaming equipment, area etc. For goodness sake. MWEB has no problems with streaming YouTube. If they did then you would see endless complaints considering they're the second largest ISP in SA. Yet the thread is dead quiet always. I suggest reading some other ISP threads to see the sort of feedback when there are really problems.

I have yet to see the star system in effect, so I cannot comment on it. And I will keep on going. I doubt I will hit 300gigs before month end, as my games for the month has finished downloading by now.

Please keep going for the sake of true testing and objectivity.

They are not on MyBB forums. They could not be bothered to get onto this.

But thousands are. Your thread has had over 3,800 views and there's not one related comment.

My DNS on my desktop was manually set by MWEB while testing last year. I had to change that to automatic, and viola, it works.

Good, that's how it should be. I guess they're as stumped as everyone else because your issues are simply unheard of.

I don't monitor using FNB, my router has a bandwidth monitor.

Can I see the FNB monitor screenshot?

I doubt people will go back to MWEB, I know I never will. Why must I pay more, for a service that is worse than the one I am currently on? Why must I move from an ISP that allows me to game, to one that does not? Why must I give up streaming just to be on MWEB.

Many people return to MWEB after playing ISP lottery. It's completely understandable that you wouldn't after your unique issues. Everyone on MWEB games and streams happily.

Only thing MWEB is good for is Browsing. Besides, I am sure you are happy, there is one less user with an average usage off about 200gigs a month to sour your experience. LOL

MWEB is renowned for always just working, any time of the day or month - browsing, streaming, gaming, p2p after hours, etc. It's understandable that the downloaders don't like MWEB after being chased away to preserve the network. Ask any ISP, big downloaders/abusers are a problem. It pains me how people are still yet to find a quality ISP. It pains me how people in current times proclaim how they're so happy to be streaming during hours. We've been doing that for years on MWEB.

You're the only one requiring these stats. I can relate given your one-off unexplainable experience. I don't need stats, most others do not need stats. I have experience, as well as the experience of many, many others both in person and on this forum/online. Remember that MWEB is the second largest ISP with the quietest feedback thread. If what you say was true for even a half significant amount of people, things would be very different. I hope you realise this.

Mweb is not the best for youtube from my experience. The only time i can ever see full speed on youtube is after 12 and early morning. Also recently i have been getting issues where the player will just stop buffering for a while then start buffering again but that could be related to something else.

I think the way it works is that it limits YouTube speed during busier times to that which just allows HD/FHD streaming. Anything extra isn't really necessary, as long as there's no buffering. There shouldn't be. MWEB capped accounts do however run at full speed always.

Yes, and you cannot provide stats. My experience tells me your statements are false, onus is on you to proof me wrong.

Now, like I said, until you can bring stats from a independent company, I no longer believe is single word you are spewing.

You are suffering from delusion, especially due to your poor one-off experience that no one else has. Some of the most technically-inclined forumites here use and swear by MWEB. Do you really think that we all experience what you do? If you do then it goes to show the levels of your unfortunate delusion.

What exactly are you looking for in terms of stats? I very much doubt they exist, but let me know and I'll see what I can do. Besides the fact that no one else has ever agreed with you, I would like to help you.

more people on here has agreed with me than with you. But anyways. Give me proper stats of the uptime of ISP's, LAG Tests on games, streaming tests etc.

You claim MWEB is the best at a,b,c. Now proof it with proper stats, or you cannot make those claims.

ha ha ha the fool is talking about delusions and not looking at himself.

Here comes part 2 the other person realizes the how little this means to them and stops replying.
