My ADSL 4MB syncs at 2.5 to 2.7MB, the attenuation is 63.5db and I am 4.7Km away from the exchange. I have reported this 3 times to Telkom (3 case numbers) the case just get closed automatically and nobody calls. On my last attempt I finally got somebody who basically told me that even though it is a 4Mb line, the R413/month is in reality for a 1Mb line and whatever you get on top is graciously OFFERED by Telkom. I was also told until a DSLAM is put in my street I want be able to get a faster connection.

I have tried to identified the service/dpt in charge of planning these installations but no luck. Does somebody might have a number to call for Cape Town / Plattekloof?

Other technology available other then ADSL to get higher bandwidth around 8-10Mb? This is for business!

A spoiled European who has a hard time adapting to SA internet condition!
Thanks,

Gordon thanks for link, so even with ADSL2 it is not going to get any better unless Telkom install a DSLAM! So I am going to investigate the installation of a leased line!

Cheers,
