I haven't tested on saix yet, but my download speeds on the IS news server have dropped from a standard 400+-kb/s to 150kb/s. It's not just a once off as I've had these speeds for about a week now.

Has anyone else noticed that their speeds have dropped significantly?

Yes, mine has dropped too. However, on Easynews I can get 350kb/s.

on easynews however, you use http downloads, right? and international bandwidth hehehe

Thats the crux of the matter. I'm getting full speed on international saix so it sounds like just another IS news sever issue. :o I've been getting between 200-300 on cached IS downloads and full speed from easynews.

I've now tested a few local downloads from the is ftp, saix ftp, saix game services ftp as well as done a few sample speed tests.

I get no more than 161kb/s from the newsserver, torrents or ftp downloads.

Below are the results from my speed tests:
GamCO: 1.25 Mbps
iBurst: 1.17 Mbps
Sentech: 440.57 Kbps
Broadband Reports: 386 Kbps
ADSL Guide: 96.77 Kbps

At the moment, it looks like I have been downgraded from 4mbit ADSL. I would like to hear if anyone else on the (021) 762 or (021) 761 exchange has had the same speed degradation.

If your adsl has been downgraded then your router should/would be syncing at a lower speed. Is it?

You also wouldnt have got that 440.57 Kbps from the Sentech speed test.

The sentech result is no different to the others having a 440.57 Kbps speed meaning I downloaded the sample file/packets at 55kb/s.

I will check my sync speed and statistics now when I plug my modem directly into a computer.

My bad - misread the units. :o

I get a similar result off their site as well but full speeds off telkom's speed test and with multi threaded downloads so everything seems up to par for me at least.

ah well, it seems that my router is no longer syncing at anything close to 4096 Kbps.

Data Rate (Kbps):
d/l: 1600
u/l: 384

SNR Margin (dB):
d/l: 12
u/l: 13

Line Attenuation (dB):
d/l: 44
u/l: 26

I think my 4Mbit trial is officially over...

ADSL now

Connection speed 4032/384
Line attenuation 52db 15.5db
Noise margin 6db 12db
9.76 MB download in 24 seconds
ping www.google.com = 462ms ave
ping 196.30.31.120 = 30ms ave

Connection speed not 4096.
download speed = 0.4067 MB/sec = 3253 Mb/Sec

Not 4096, but better than iBurst any time.

4mbit speeds are not gone. I connect regularly at 4096, and download 9.76 MB regularly in 23 seconds.

It seems that my router has once again started syncing at 4096 Kbps and my downloads are back to the usual speeds.

Noticed that router synch dfropped to 640k down today, this being a 4096k line. Also had a lot of disconnects today, let's see if a fault report can sort it out.

Mine still relatively OK

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 4096 kbps 384 kbps
Line Attenuation 34.0 db 20.5 db
Noise Margin 19.9 db 13.0 db

Check the SAIX noticeboard, there has been a lot of work being done on exchanges this week, might be related to that as well.
