Hi

So Telkom finally upgraded my line speed to 4Mbps from 384Kbps. Man what a huge difference.

At 19h00 last night I managed to download a 400Mb file in under 10 minutes.

Very impressed!
The problem now is that I'm heading full steam to my monthly cap. :(

Damn Jealousy.
I'm thinking of uprgrading to a 4meg line and getting like 10gigs with Afrihost but im on a 512 and to downgrade to 384 and get the SAOL is also appetizing.
Hmmm
Catch 22's suck

How long does it take? I applied yesterday. The 1st consultant told me 24 hours and the 2nd one told me within 72 hours.

Could you please explain your reason for being on 512k? You know just R87 more and you are on something 8 times as fast? Right?

Mine took under 24 hours (also Cape Town).
no more ports they say :(
I applied for a 384k to 4mb upgrade on 30 March. When I phoned telkom on 1 April, they told me there were no more ports and that someone would call me. Are they talking BS about this no more ports story? How does it work at the exchange? I would have thought it was just a software setting unless the DSLAMS at my exchange are really old and only 384k capable? I'm in Rondebosch East, Cape Town.

up until last year I really never understood it or gave a K@K, my dad just paid the bills and we were on a 512 uncapped. When the desire for more speed came along i started to investigate it etc but only after reading this forum did i actually know what to do. Then i had to convince my dad etc so ya.

I forgot to mention we got our ADSL very early on when i think 512 was the fastest you could get. I was around 10 at the time so I dont remember much
