So my line speed dropped to 2559kbps and I contacted Telkom to reset my line port profile. My line is syncing at 4096kbps again but my signal ratio has dropped to 15.6dB (it was stable at 26dB even before the speed drop).

I was affected by cable theft for almost 3 weeks in the past month (19 Sept to Oct 7) but when my line came back online, my stats were good.

What could the problem be?

Hi IchigoK. With your SNR (signal to noise ratio) at 15,6 dB you need not worry, you’ll be okay. Super Grandmaster Johnatan56 says anything above 6 dB is fine.

The higher your SNR, the lower your connection speed.

“When your broadband service is first switched on, the target SNR margin is set by the BT (British Telecom) exchange equipment at 6 dB. On a good line, BT generally considers that a 6 dB SNR margin is appropriate to maintain a connection without a significant number of drops or errors.”
