After the 512k's were upgraded to 1mbps, my line has not been able to connect for more then 10 minutes. It used to sync at 6144kbps with no problems! So annoying, is anyone else experiencing anything like this. I have logged a call with Telkom via the website, but who knows how long this will take to rectify! I am now left without ADSL pretty much.

Rather call them than use the website.

Downstream/Upstream
Connection Speed:3104kpbs/640kbps
Line Attenuation:42db/25db
Noise Margin:14.9db/11db

These are the latest stats, however my downstream speed varies between 2044kbps and 6144kbps... Very annoying.

If I move my line to MWEB, will I have better turn around times on faults?

I have tried the line with a Billion 5200 NRC, and Netgear DGN2200.
It is now day 5 with over 100 disconnects per day!

The Netgear DGN2200 modem is terrible for 4Mbps connections with such high line attenuations.
I have no idea how good the Billion modem is, but my guess is that it is just as bad.

See if you can borrow someone's D-Link or TP-Link modem instead. If you'd want your line to be stable, then you'll have to phone Telkom to lock your profile on a certain (lowish) speed, eg. 3Mbps
If you keep it at 6Mbps, then the slight fluctuations in the already low SNR margin would cause the modem to resync, which is what you're experiencing now.

ADSL can only synchronize if the SNR margin is 6dB or higher, so I usually advise people to ensure that they should try to keep theirs above 12dB.
For each 1Mbps that you decrease the downstream speed, your downstream SNR margin should increase with about 3dB.

In the rainy season, ADSL problems occur more often, especially when some of the manholes gets flooded, and then even a good modem won't fix the issue.

The netgear has been brilliant up until this point, I plugged in the Billion 5200 NRC under the current conditions with much worse results.
I switched to Billion this year after using a Netgear for about 4 years (so I could get half bridge).

The billion gave constant issues, intermittent wireless etc. so it got swapped on warranty, still have the brand new billion, only opened it yesterday.

Anyway with regards to the problem:
-> A technician from Telkom came in yesterday (very impressed).
-> Tested the line and determined an issue at the end of my road (supposedly an underground cable would need to be fixed, but he did something temporarily and everything is back up and running at 6 meg!

Pretty impressed by Telkom's turn around time. (less than 48 hours)

That is pretty impressive from Telkom for a change :)

Could you perhaps post your new connection speed, SNR margins & line attenuation?
