HI so I was at telkom and they installed a 4meg Line at my house and now I moved to a new ISP and I'm paying for a 10meg line. But I didn't check the availability in my area it says the max speed in my area is 4MBps ( @ http://www2.telkom.co.za/checkadsl/checkADSL.htm) So I was wondering can I call telkom to come and install a 10meg line at my house ? And If I can how much would it cost ?

They won't come and install a new line - They will just upgrade your existing line speed.

My upgrade was instant. No cost, just the higher monthly fee of course.

So you just called them and they upgraded your line for free ? Doesn't sound like telkom to me

There's no charge for upgrading an existing ADSL line just the higher monthly rental. Also note that there's no guarantee you will achieve 10mbps might only be 8mbps or 6mbps but you'll still be charged the "up to 10mbps" rental.

According to the image you posted 4mb is the highest speed available in the area so no, you're not going to be able to get 10mb, at least for now.

Call Telkom and have them downgrade your line to 4mb for now. No point in paying for something you cannot get.

I'm just a bit confused as you are keeping two related threads alive....have you confirmed with Telkom that your exchange can handle 10Mb? The image you posted says different hence the question.

I am in the same situation - want 10, area only capable of 4. Have to say, though, I get max speed 400KB/s 24/7 from the moment I went capped with Afrihost - uncapped was a different story.

Thanks guys it was easy I'm with crystalweb on a 10meg account so I just phoned Telkom asked them to switch my line from a 4meg to a 10meg and they did it fast , witch is unexpected of telkom

As far as I know its not only the actual exchange but the distance u are from it. If ur closer u can get a higher sync rate. Well thats according to cisco dunno about south africa
