Hi All,

I'm a bit clueless about expected line speeds on various service providers and using SA ADSL infrastructure.

I have a home line with Telkom - 4mg line with a 4mg uncapped account with Mweb.

I have just done a speed test: http://speedtest.ookla.com/result/2558605738.png

I'm not overly impressed with these results. Is this to be expected based on the line specs I have?

Your advice is much appreciated!

Are you sure your sync speed is 4096 not 1024?

Edit why are you doing a international speed test?

Have you used more than 110GBs this month?

If you have just move to the 4meg premium. You only get throttled there at 400GBs.

That's not right.
It should sit around 3470kbps.

I find that a rooter reboot or update often solves it.

Might be that your modem is picking up CRC errors, meaning line attenuation is maybe low and therefore a lot of lost packets due to exchange too far from your home, maybe drop your line speed a bit to check whether your sync stabilize.

Thanks for all the responses guys.

I will try all the suggestions above. This is a new install, so I havent "abused" the account yet.

So, my first course of action should be to call mweb or telkom?

I would say your first course of action should be to log into your router and check what your actual line speed is syncing at.
If it is correct at 4096 then consider turning the router off for 5 minutes and then on again.

If none of this changes the results, call them.
