4U contract - international roaming?

I have a Vodacom Talk 120 contract which gives me evrything I want, but works out R100 a month too expensive compared to TopUp 200s. The TopUp contracts are treated like prepaid and provide no or poor international voice and data roaming. I normally block all incoming calls when going overseas, so a different number (different contract) while overseas is OK. Has anybody got an idea if 4U contract will provide the overseas roaming (data and voice)? Any other disadvantages except high call unit costs? If it does provide the service, I will switch to Topup200s locally, and use 4U contract abroad.

Yes it sucks that you can't roam on top-up or prepaid. Don't know what the reason is for that because it is possible. I use to be able to roam here and a lot of other countries on a UK prepaid Sim. Think our phone companies are just backwards.

Well I have a 4U contract for nearly 4 years now and so far roamed in Europa a while ago and more recently in Mozambique. Only voice however, not sure about the data but I don't see a problem there.
I really don't see any disadvantages with the 4U contract, besides that you don't get a phone with the contract. Even with the higher call units costs I still cut my monthly expenses drastically since I moved over from a inclusive minutes contract. I don't think I will ever use these "free minutes" packages again. The monthly premiums are way too high, I would rather use those payments for calls I actually make.

I got a 4U contract. I enquired about international roaming and was told in the first 6 months of the contract they want a deposit of R5000 cash into their account if I wanted to roam. Then you get the money back when you return from overseas, but it could take up to 3 months to get the refund. After 6 months you can roam without any deposits.

I am not sure how the deposit thing works if you already have a contract with VC. Maybe Vodadeal can tell us.

I wonder if that is the case if you're changing to a 4U rather than starting a completely new contract. I've got another phone I want to migrate across until MNP comes into play but I use it internationally and really dont feel like coughing up r5000.

Why do you need a deposit anyway? I mean why do they assume your credit is automatically worse on a different contract. Surely they should rather just look at a person's individual credit rating?
