5.9 Quake just hit NZ

when you give a 5.9 quake a nickname like "rattler" and just go about business as usual I get the idea you've become a bit blasé when it comes to earthquakes

I guess kiwis get them too often to pay much attention anymore, like saffas when yet another ANC corruption scandal is uncovered :sneaky:

So i think if there was no virus & volcano eruption this would have been big news for them but wrt major quake (yrs back), terrorism, volcano eruption and virus this quake which they'd be more prepared for since the major one wont feature as much.

If you have family who live there, you will notice they have small town/island mentality. So events are typically blown up as major events in their otherwise non-eventful day-to-day existence. People often say SA is great because so many things can happen(good and bad) in a short time.. but personally i prefer the mundane day-to-day life(stability) as then u can focus on work. The US has this too.. people love living on the edge?

Its on the Ring of Fire, part of the restless earth. Almost the entire coastline of the Pacific Ocean is subject to quakes:

LOL at me. I should have put a comma after why. I was asking piggy why, because New Zealand has lot of earthquakes.

A magnitude 5.8 earthquake occurred 30 km north-west of Levin, New Zealand on Mon May 25 2020 7:53 AM. The quake was 37 kilometres deep and the shaking was strong close to the quake.
