5 Battery myths busted

Makes sense. But I am over it, I am just gonna get chargers for everywhere I might go and fully use my awesome phone cause thats why I took it!

Yip, thats what i have decided as well.....mindset change......I was excited to get the phone for all the "Smartphone" and social networking features, makes no sense to switch these all off to save battery. Thats like have a laptop but having it just stand there with the screen saver on and not using it to check email because the battery will run down. Basically, these phones have higher specs than some of the computers of not too long ago, so now I see this as a "mobile computer" of sorts, with the added bonus of being able to make and receive calls :) and just as a laptop or netbook would need charging on the go, or every 6 hours, so does this little "mobile computer" of mine.....Hey, makes me feel better about it.....
 
Interesting read, but somewhat simplistic, especially 'The Unbelievable HTC Battery Boost Myth'. The procedure doesn't affect the internal chemistry of the battery so much as recalibrating the sensors to provide more accurate sensing of 'empty' and 'full'. Also the 'auto brightness' is highly dependent on how often the screen is actually on what colour it displays. Having a full-white background/wallpaper with brightness at 100% and having the screen on for 60% of the time will undoubtedly drain the battery more than auto-adjusting the brightness, especially if you use the phone in dimly-lit areas.
 
Yeah no this works muuuuuch better than worrying about what may drop the battery the whole time. Got wifi on all the time, auto syncing gmail and facebook every 2 minutes, screen brightness on full, playing games when bored, live wallpaper running! Now this is what makes the Desire so awesome!

haha!! Dude.. you rock. Even though I hate it when people try to save every little drop of battery life, I still can't get myself to do this .... neeed .... mindset .. change .... now.... more .. chargers ... everywhere ... :-P

P.S. Don't you just HATE it when someone casually mentions: "Hey ... I keep my screen brightness at its lowest"?... duuuude!! Then get a damn Nokia 6110

Haha. I don't understand people that buy fancy phones and then turn all the cool stuff off. Turning brightness way down is a waste of an awesome screen.
I leave it on auto, and sometimes turn it to manual when I want the best quality for pictures and video. I'm sure the battery impact from auto-brightness is negligible.

Only time I turn stuff off is when I actually need it to last more than a day like if I'm not going home for the night. Setting it to 2G mode and avoiding too much battery intensive stuff does fine.
 
It's absolutely amazing how many comments I see on sites all over the net about people moaning and groaning that their 1Ghz 32GB AMOLED HD 4G Rocket powered 0-100/.0001 millisecond 5-10MP camera phones with HD video recording and built in vibrator with massage controller and satellite zapping laser car jack don't last a full day, or two days, or three. So... what... you decided to spend a few thousand bucks on a phone and didn't bother to check the average battery life before buying?!?
Solution:
A. Charger at work
B. Charger in car
C. Charger at home

And after that, if you're complaining that your phone won't last when you go on a hunting expedition in the bush for 5 days, then you're either not supposed to take the phone in the first place, or you're too stupid to take with you one of the three thousand backup phones you've accumulated over the years.
Yes, I feel bad for people who are busy during the day, meetings, clients etc. But such is life, if we could get along fine without mobile phones/pocket computers in the old days, I'm sure we can adapt to charge a device now and then during the day if need be.
And if you truly can't manage to adapt during a normal working day, no matter how huge the paradigm shift... then good luck buddy, you need more than improved battery life. You need a new job, probably a shrink, and definitely a very long holiday.

Exactly, and people tend to forget when we had phones that lasted days, it was also frustrating as hell when the battery would eventually run down (usually at the worst of times, especially since you didn't keep an eye on it routinely). Now it just happens more often, and yes it's frustrating, BUT because of that phone battery maintenance has become more of a routine, something that subconsciously bubbles up every now and again. For example, each Friday or Saturday or whatever when we go out, I instinctively know about 1.5 hours or so before we head out that I need to make sure there's enough juice in my phone to keep me connected until at least 11AM the following day.

And like you said, if I forget for some reason or I don't have a charger with me, just turn off 3G or whatever. I think one thing that actually makes more of a difference to me on a specific phone model than a few hours of extra battery life etc. .. is the STANDARDIZATION of chargers. There's nothing like having some crappy little charger with some odd sized plug that only works on your phone.... As far as I'm concerned ALL phones should run mini-USB (they are these days, right?). With maybe the exception being the iPhone, since I always managed to find someone with an iPod/iPhone cable to charge if I needed to.

The worst charger I've ever had was the one on my Samsung E700 way back, that thing was a bitch to track down if you needed a backup ... and also those ****ty little things Nokia used on the first N-series phones. No, wait ... ALL those nokia charger thingies that all looked the same until you tried it on your specific Nokia, only to find out it's not going to work... aargh .... :)

I am not gonna get myself a phone only to cripple its usefulness due to fears of what will happen to the battery. Hell I am even contemplating getting a second battery.
 
Im enjoying great battery life with my X10. I have set brightness to 40% as anything more is simply way too much for my eyes especialy at night. Turned off 3G/HSDPA as Voda's 3G is so inconsistent so i only use it when doing heavy downloads otherwise EDGE is still realy good for FB, Twitter and browsing with Opera Mini5.1. I use Shangmail for emails, as it does Direct Push so my X10 doesnt have to poll, emails come through immedietly. Ive got UI effects On, and only use System Panel to close certain apps, as ive set it to exclude All system, core apps, Email and Web browsers when i kill, so they remain untouched. I never turn off my X10, last time i turned it off was over 2weeks ago just to test a sim card, its showing 400hours uptime and still running beautifuly.
It does around 10-12hours with my useage which is enough, i usualy charge it at like 40% though lol, as im always on it, and im simply enjoying my 1GHz beauty :D id rather have average Android batt life than go back to dated craptastic symbian. :p
