I got off the phone with a neotel rep. He told me the lite internet packages is only 50 kps...is this correct? Also, he said that the speed of the prime packages are 700 kps? Is this also correct? Thought they had 3meg speeds...or 2 meg. Remember reading something like that

not sure about the lite but on Prime they state you should be getting speeds between 300 - 700kbs. I'm lucky if I even see the 300kbs these days.
2.4mbs is theoritical maximum that can be achieved.

The NeoConnect Lite package average max speed is 17kB (kilobytes) or 136kb (kilobits)

Klaasvaakie,

The speeds that were have been given you are averages that for the network. We offer a best effort service and there many factors which influence this.

@Neotel Rep
Please explain to me why it is possible for me to get between 70-90kbs on a Prime package with RSSI 70 (PN 140)
I was lucky once this morning on my way to work to get 200kbs, but my next door neigbour seems to get about 200 - 700
Im suppose to be in an excellent coverage area, I had to get an external antenna to get anything to work. Secondly, 6months back my RSSI was 62 and downloads 400 - 1000kbs.

What is up?

Cyberbyte,

OK there are many more things that have an influence on speeds & RSSI.

I will work with speeds;
DO you and your neighbour do speed tests at exactly the same time?
It would be interesting to see what you both get outside @ the same time and then individually with your own houses.
The more users on the site the slower the speed as the max is the n shared between all of you.
As for the the RSSI changing, trees, climate, buildings, location of the device and 100 other things influence the signal strength, penetration and quality...

Neotel Sucks!!

Yes, I thought so. You forgot to add the overselling of bandwidth available to towers. That is the biggest instigator here... I think Neotel should be part of the TRUTH commission. Lucky you cannot point fingers at Telkom.

OK, speed tests were done about 30mins apart. That makes a big difference in Africa :)
I got 400+kbs (Prime) around 17:00, at 18:00 when every dick and harry is on the oversold towers then I get 50kbs (this is pathetic and I think Neotel should wake TFUp (PN 140) - It has not gotten better since I reported this to HQ

Uhm... Yes, that is the whole point of shared bandwidth. But 50kbs...(that is KiloBITS) Like everyone on this forum said. "Sort Your Crap Out"

Yes, Yes... Not sure if I worry about these facts after all the excuses that Neotel makes.

This sounds familiar ....

Like when I was on excellent signal with no external Antennae.. What I now I get depending on the time of the day is a red / orange or green signal with an antennae. According to the Neotel rep I should not getting coverage even though their site STILL SHOWS I have excellent indoor coverage.

His response , do I want to cancel? No I do NOT. I just want what I have paid for and what they have contracted to supply.

Oh And Mr Neotel rep ... What happened with you getting back to me to let me know what is happening in the future with new towers etc in my area ?
