50 things Eskom must do to fix its mess

Great to see a list, but I would shorten it to a single sentence: Top-to-bottom cleanout of all officials, public investigation of all processes and tenders, and appointment of an indpendent review board, made up of outside experts (including the author of this article).

And get rid of all things Zupta (including the existing coal tenders).

And also put together a crack team (with the appropriate hardware) to combat electricity theft.

I’m posting more to have the topic in my followed ones than anything else, i have sort of thought about what could fix Eskom since this morning, but it would be an essay rather than a post.

Staff cuts are far from enough.

The waste is massive on every single aspect of the company.

The strategy is counterproductive.

The more they invest or build, the more costly they are per mwh produced.

I just can’t see a straight and clear option to save it, and the more I know them and work with them, the less I do.

TLDR :) 50 things... one thing and one thing only. Competition.

First let municipalities produce and buy their own power if they want... then later allow other people to supply your power on their infrastructure too. Unbundle the network from the power and make Eskom compete as a generator. That way you can't afford to pay back-handers for Coal or diesel, because no-one will buy your power if it's too expensive.

Imagine we still only let Telkom provide telecoms services... no Afrihost or WebAfrica... actually on Second thoughts - Viva Eskom!!

They do. City Power, COCT and Bloemfontein do and can. They just don’t have the willingness to invest in it.

They are extremely inefficient at it, more so than Eskom actually.
