I have this very frustrating problem where the pings to anything over the ADSL line goes to around 5000ms every now and then and I have high (20 - 30 %) packet loss. I have been unable to pinpoint when this happens - but I'm starting to think it happens when there is nothing happening on the line. I.e. when I get back home sometimes it just looks dead.

Details:
* The line itself is stable - I've had up to 80 days at a time where it does not even resync.
* SNR down = 13.8, SNR up = 23.3
* Att down = 30, Att up = 18.5
* D-Link DSL-2750U
* Rebooting the router has no effect - i.e. the pings stay high
* It usually resolves itself after a while
* It does not happen at a specific time during the day

I've run mtr while this was happening, and it usually looks something like this. Here it was starting to improve again.

Not sure if I was doing something wrong, but I could do nothing on the guest account - I've taken note of the IP of saix.net (196.25.1.204) now, and will ping that next time.
