50D Price Drop

Dunno if you guys have noticed. The 50D body is now R13899 dropped down from R15999. B&H prices didn't change, but it seams SA prices are now more in line with overseas markets.

I emailed Canon about this comparing the price difference of the 40D and 50D on the international and local markets. The price difference internationally was about 19%. ($899 for 40D, $1089 for 50D) Locally it was 39% (R10999 for 40D, R15999 50D). Now the difference is 22%

Would be nice to know if my mail had anything to do with it, but I didn't get any response from Canon. *shrug*

The rand has gained a fair bit against the US$ recently and is now sitting at around $9. New stock might be brought in under this rate?

Yep saw that - they must have imported when it was more than R10 to the dollar. Sucks, if I knew this was on the cards, I would have held off a bit instead of buying the 40D (2nd hand) - Would have made a nicer birthday present for myself

When I got mine from Orms last year I paid R14000, a few weeks later it went up to R16000 when the Rand crashed.

Xe.com is reporting R8.91996/1 USD at the moment. I doubt it will stay there though

I could never drop that sort of cash on a consumer or a crop camera.
