I'm having some problems with my router. I have a Telkom 5102G and I connect to it via LAN, the problem is that it randomly drops my internet connection. When I check it the ADSL and PPP lights are still on and the only way to fix it is to switch the router off and on again, then it works for a while and then it does it again and again and so on...

I'm no expert, but I'm wondering if its got to do with the routers built-in DHCP server, so do you think it might be better to just manually set IP's on all my PCs and disable DHCP? or do you think it something else?

Any ideas?

Thanks

had a similar problem with my year old telkom modem 4 weeks ago after a brief power outage - so much for power surge protectors. the router was working but couldn't connect. after about half a day of tinkering with settings (including, amongst many things, manually assigning ip's 2 each networked pc), internet research and phonecalls to isp and telkom i concluded that the modem was stuffed, and took it in. unfortunately it was just out of warranty so ended up picking up a new wireless one.

check to see if it's still under warranty.

Thanks for the advice, I will look into that, but it still works, it just that is cuts out when ever it wants. and I know its not telkom because the router is still connected to the internet, its the connection between the router and my pc. also when it cuts out It works on some pcs and not others

My wife and I have a similar problem with the wifi connection being dropped on th 5102G

it's out of warrantee and stuffed it won't hurt trying to upload new firmware from billion.

www.billion.com.tw has a newer version than current and billion locally has even newer firmware.

perhaps the surge toasted some of the firmware, either way you're losing nothing by trying this out.

I had similar problem with the 5100 and swopped it for the 5102g no questions asked at the telkom shop. Turned out that the problem was noise on the line. Although it tested 100% when they did the test from their side, i had to get them to come to my house and sort it out. When they came out they immediately saw there is a problem and 2 hours later no problem of that sort again.

Me too have 5102g modem... Dropped Billionsa a email a while ago regarding firmware updates for it and they advised that they dont support the 5102g modem. A company called 2C is ooficial company that supports the telkom DSL modem... I must say the Billion guys are really on he ball as they sent me the new firmware via email anyway... Myself hd no problems yet wih my modem and is in fact very happy with it. My wireless range at home is very impressive indeed.

Does anybody know what firmware model to look for on billion website for future upgrades for the 5102g modem as 2C doesnt offer any support downloads on their website.... Any other users here using 5102g should share their comments regarding firmware for this device...

i flashed with this, get rids of the silly telkom branding if nothing else :)

Hey guys,

Just a quick query on the above-mentioned router, the 5102G.

I went to the website that was recommended and upgraded my firmware with the Annexure A firmware for the correct model.

All seemed great (internet connection etc) until I tried to log onto my router (for me going to my router's ip) and I found that the menu is all screwed up. I have no option to change my wireless settings or anything, just the welcome page and the 'device info' page.

Did anyone else have this issue?

Thanks.

dood had same problem then this is what I did:

1. first restart pc
2. use ipconfig to see if you default gateway has changed - use THIS ip to log onto your router then and log in with the default username and password

hope this helps

Just perform a factory reset ( hold the reset button at the back for six seconds) this should sort out the problem.

Reset button wasn't working for me... that was about the same time I started getting really worried - did the whole 6 seconds thing and everything

It was a combination of the 2 solutions supplied to me.

I reset my router, (the 6 second thing) and then checked my router's ip, which had then changed from 10.0.0.2 to a new IP in the 192 range.

I logged on using that and it worked.

Thanks for the help, guys.
