Hi guys

I saw an advert from Openweb advertising a 512k uncapped adsl account for only R1099.

http://special.openweb.co.za

Has anybody used this product of theirs?

It is said that the rate limit is dropped after hours. Is this true?

From what I can understand from the advert, if you download in the first 10 days outside of this after hour period, you than will reach the threshold and speed dropped to 256kbps, but download during after hours will not accumulate towards the 10g/10days threshold.

Sounds more like "Between Mon and Fri, 20:00 to 08:00 and all weekend long, there will be no rate limits enforced". IE, from Mon to Fri, between 20:00 and 08:00 and all weekend long your connection will not be slowed down due to rate limits, you won't be throttled during those times.

As far as I know thats true, also for other ISPs although they don't advertise or acknowledge it. I don't think any ISP really has much control if any over it, I think IS controls all that but having an ISP basically guarantee it is nice.

All downloads count towards caps, IS became very strict a few months ago and reached a compromise to unthrottle during said hours.

I just sent them the following questions:

- is it shaved or unshaved traffic?
- is the traffic for the 10 GB cap counted around the clock or only during office hours of the last 10 days?
- what kind of traffic / backbone are you using? IS, Verizon(best!) or Telkom, Satellite or Cable?
- is the contract a monthly one or a 12- or even 24 month contract?
you seem to already answer my second question to a non-satisfying reply.

I'm not sure if I'll be able to deal with the 'downgrade' from 4mbit to 1mbit if I'd sign up for this uncapped offer. How was your experience?

Uhm, should that not be shaped and unshaped traffic? If so, then it follows the same shaping rules as all other IS traffic.

10gb is counted around the clock, the threshold is not enforced after hours but all traffic counts toward the cap

All I know if, it runs on fibre, and most probably uses IS backbone, but could be wrong about this

I have a 384 uncapped express with openweb, and that runs on a monthly basis, so this one too probably
