And the race for the top dog video card continues: "NVIDIA IS still very quiet after ATI launched its long delayed R520 chip. It released a new beta driver that didn't change much but it still has to answer with a new Geforce 7800 GTX card powered with 512MB of memory.
We confirmed that Nvidia is working on such a card and we also learned that Nvidia might ship its 512MB cards before ATI brings X1800XT cards to the shops. ATI already announced that you can expect to see some Radeon X1800XT starting from the 5th of November."

512MB of RAM on your graphics board is certainly a good thing, BUT NOT WHEN YOU'VE ALREADY SHELLED OUT LIKE R6500 BUCKS FOR THE 256MB VERSION!!

And so the race is on..... who will be crowned king for christmas!

7800GTX 256mb goes for about R4400.....if you pay much over that your paying too much.

I think both the X1800XT and 7800GTX are gewd......I will ofcourse go for the card that overclocks the best since both are close on performance. :D

Grey parts maybe

Gigabyte GTX : R6200
Albatron GTX : R5300
Gainward GS GTX : R6400
XFX GTX : R6000
Elsa GTX : R5800
Leadtek GTX : R6500
Asus GTX : R6500

(Prices found in NAG magazine 7800GTX shoot out)

the only game thus far which has made use of 512MB of RAM in a GPU is Call of Duty 2... the guys who reviewed the demo run benchmarks and noticed better 512MB performance...

but heck.. i will wait for the physics chips rather than drop R6000 on a card which will only offer me higher AA and AF... my trusty 6800GT gives me all that for now.

Interesting enough AA and AF are not going enhance games much more anyways... read a very interesting atricle on it, could have been in the NAG as well but I would not quote me on that.

X1800XT Beats SLI With 2 7800GTXs

That card is overclocked to the extreme and the 7800gtxs arent touched. If you do a bit more research you will find that the standard 7800GTX outperforms the standard x1800xt in most fields and is quite a bit cheaper atm.

ummm you do know amd is kickin intel butts in the performance department

Games Ya but who is only interested in games. 90% of pc's is underutilised anyway so that makes no real difference in the middle performance arena.
