53% = 70% According to Eskom

Just had a peak at the Nersa draft consultation paper.

While Eskom wants a 53% increase, the real increase it is suggesting to Business and Domestic users is more like 70%, this is to accomodate the "Indigent" population (poor). In addition they wish to make a profit of R12.7 Billion after tax, probably so as to maintain there bonus scheme

IOL had an article about this this morning, but now I can't find it. Basically, the rich and middle-class subsiding the poor, with up to 100% increase if you use over 1000kwh a month. And only about a 10% increase if you use 100kwh.

But they didn't explain who gets classed as rich or poor, or how they plan to bill at different rates.

What does it help to reduce the bill for the poor, the Bread
will in any case become more expensive , so are all other
food stuff. Look at Egypt, big demonstration due to price hikes.

It is going to happen. SA has a tradition of screwing the middle class (mostly whites) for subsidies for the poor. Sadly they don't actually subsidise the poor very much. Cash gets losts as bonuses, salaries for redundant and unproductive staff and the rest is
stolen - very little goes to the poor. However since they voted these idiots into power,
let them suffer.
