55 inch LG vs Samsung Help

Hi Guys,

I am looking to upgrade my TV and would need some advise regarding which way to look.
I have got a budget of ~15000 R and would like to get a smart 3D TV.

I will be using it mainly for watching movies and would like to be able to stream using Unotelly, Netflix and Futubox.

Therefore I am looking for a XBMC client and or Plex client on the TV as I have a WD SMP with DLNA connection but would like a XBMC to get Futubox running without transcoding.

Regarding 3D what is your experience regarding active (Samsung) vs passive (LG)?

I would go Samsung. I bought a passive LG 55" in December and returned it in January for a Samsung 55". The apps that you want. ie Netflix, Hulu etc don't appear on the LG TV's. Secondly I hated the passive 3D because I can see the drop in resolution in 3D.
Thirdly my LG had massive back light bleed which LG techs said is normal actually at my house he said the panel needs replacing but told his boss its normal, so I made the dealer (Tafelberg Furnishers) replace with a Samsung.
My great LG experiment was therefore a failure and will not buy that brand again at least for TV's

Definitely go for Samsung as the LG Service Centre in Montague Gardens will put you off all LG products for life. The worst service centre I have ever come across.

So Samsung it is then. I was tempted by the LG but as Unotelly setup is not really working that makes it a deal breaker.

Will wait for my tax return and then go for it.

Just bought the new 2013 UA55F6800 55" after months of research.

All I can say is wow. Just wow. Zero backlight bleading. Zero flashlighting. A real "black" panel and amazing colour reproduction.

Micro dimming makes a massive difference. Screen uniformity seems better than last years ES7500 model after comparing both side by side in-store.

You won't be sorry.

The F6400 is probably in your budget, the F6800 slightly more expensive.

Pretty much everything sal12344 says above is what put me off LG.

I have XBMC with Futubox and AppleTV for Hulu Plus and Neftlix. All look visually super.

3D movies are immersive with no ghosting or cross talk.

Replaces my 2011 UE46D6200.
