"550 Relay not permitted" message from email program when sending mail

Father likes to use Incredimail.

Since about 2 months ago, program will not send email, reporting "550 Relay not permitted" error. This is normally due to Authentication not being ticked on the SMTP settings of the email program, but looking at the settings, this is checked. The same user/password is used to send mail as is to receive mail

One work-around is to restart the computer and restart Incredimail. Then it sends all unsent messages.

The ISP, Afrihost, do not know what is causing this. AVG anti-virus is up to date and there are no other security programs running

Have tried setting up an account with Thunderbird, but same message appears

EDIT: Oh, and please, please convince him to get a real e-mail program and not Incredimail.
He will most definitely regret it later when it comes time to transfer his contacts, or back up his mail!

also try disabling the email scan on avg and test. maybe for a day or so.
